World Breastfeeding Week! 🤱🏻🤱🏽🤱🏾
A topic I deeply care about! I’ve breastfed both my daughters for a total of almost 3 years, and I’m still in awe of what a mother’s body is capable of. 💪🏻
During my breastfeeding journey, I was stunned to discover the harsh stigma attached to nursing in public. Society frequently sexualizes breasts rather than viewing them as parts of a woman’s body for infant nutrition. This judgment forces many mothers to feel isolated and unwelcome in everyday spaces.
I can’t remember the number of times I went to sit in a public restroom (unhygienic, I know) to nurse my little ones to avoid being frowned upon. I’ve even learned that some mothers stopped breastfeeding sooner than planned because they felt embarrassed. 😢
So we created the concept of the Bo***es Pendant - still in the prototyping phase - a light to create awareness around breastfeeding and to normalize nursing in public. 🎉🎉🎉
My hope is for other interior designers, architects and even businesses to plan for and design safe spaces that welcome nursing mothers. Let’s make this the norm! 🙌🏻
And to all mothers breastfeeding, may you feel encouraged and brave enough to take out your bo***es and breastfeed in public! Your body is a home, a source of nourishment and an epicentre of power! Take those bo***es out! 🤱🏻🤱🏽🤱🏾
