Gelato Mania V&A Waterfront, a love letter to Firenze!

For Gelato Mania’s latest interior, Florence provided the point of departure, not through literal references, but through material, craftsmanship and the quiet romance of spaces that feel collected over time.

Underfoot, natural limestone cobbles recall the worn streets of Firenze, their irregularity bringing an immediate sense of age and permanence. Above, generous folds of heavy velvet drapery soften the architecture, while Crema Marfil and Rosa Verona marble layer the space in warm, tonal stone.

The details are deliberately nostalgic, custom scalloped tables, a traditional newspaper stand lined with imported Italian magazines, and a brass mirror suspended trom a chain, small moments intended to make the gelateria feel less newly designed and more discovered.

Perhaps the most romantic gesture is the imported French wallpaper, designed after an antique Beauvais tapestry. Its pastoral, painterly quality wraps the interior like an artwork, lending the space the richness and patina of another era.

As with every Gelato Mania store, the concept is rooted in place. This chapter speaks of Mallorca, sunlit, textured, timeless.

Taking cues from Redline’s Rue Saint-Honoré store, we sought to pay homage to the maison’s distinctly French identity without replicating it, reinterpreting its spirit through the lens of Atelier Giorgio for a South African context.

Redline’s signature white becomes the architecture itself: colour-drenched wall panelling, classical mouldings and curved joinery create depth through shadow and texture, contrasted by warm chevron timber flooring. A hand-carved marble fireplace brings old-world craftsmanship, while handmade floral installations grow delicately across the ceiling, adding an unexpected layer of romance.

The result sits somewhere between jewellery boutique and Parisian salon, detailed yet quiet, nostalgic without being literal. An architectural backdrop designed to recede just enough for Redline’s fine jewellery, and its signature thread of colour, to remain the protagonist.

In the heart of bustling Sandton, this residence offers a serene escape, where calming neutral tones, sott plush couches, and a fluted travertine fireplace create a sense of stillness and ease.

A combination of locally crafted pieces and imported Italian furniture brings together the best of both worlds, timeless European design and bespoke South African craftsmanship.

At Clouds End, stone becomes a language of its own.

Used throughout the residence in contrasting finishes, each surface reveals a different character, from the softness of honed travertine to the expressive movement of Arabescato marble, alongside tactile, textural finishes that celebrate the material in its more natural state.

Smooth against rough, quiet against expressive, refined against raw. The variation allows the same material vocabulary to shift from space to space, creating depth without losing a sense of continuity.

A study in stone, texture and permanence, where the beauty lies as much in the finish as it does in the material itself.
