People often ask what actually happens when you come for pottery lessons at Bomkisi.

I usually give a simple answer: you’ll learn the technical side of clay hand-building, wheel basics, glazing and firing. Everything you need to know about what to expect in a class is also outlined on our website for anyone wanting the practical breakdown.

But that only tells part of the story.

What is sometimes lost in quick enquiries … here is what really happens in the studio.

Yes, we work with clay, but we also laugh, learn, get messy, surprise ourselves and slowly build confidence through our hands. Somewhere along the way, it stops being just a class and becomes more a place of belonging.

We’ve watched people arrive nervous and unsure and leave with pieces they’re proud of and often with new friendships they didn’t expect. Over time, a community has formed here that feels less like “students and teachers” and more like a pottery family that keeps growing.

This photo was taken in February last year just before Tay’s wedding, it reminds me how fast time flies and many life moments have passed through this studio space with people we now call friends.

We’re genuinely grateful for every person who walks through our doors, for the support, the conversations, and the connections that have shaped us and this journey with us.

Here’s to clay, community, and the beautiful friendships forming along the way 🙌🏻💕
