I have been working on this pattern for weeks now. I discovered a crochet brioche stitch that forms the most beautiful wave leaf motif and I immediately fell in love with it. From that moment I knew I wanted to adapt the technique so it can be worked in the round and used for handbag designs.

This is my progress so far. The structure works beautifully and the texture is exactly what I hoped for. I still want to refine the foundation row where the half motif begins so the overall shape sits even neater, but I am honestly very proud of this stage of the journey. I am also glad I did not give up. It has been quite an adventure.

I am using Kismet Macrame Loopy for this piece and I am very excited because this design will form part of my first full pattern range that will be available for purchase. The entire range is inspired by the colours and quiet character of the Karoo and this motif feels like the perfect place to begin.

150 × 200 cm rug in the works — halfway there and 6 balls of T-yarn down!
Working only in single crochet with an 8mm hook — slow, steady, and totally worth it.
This piece is turning out flatter and neater than I could have hoped, and I’m loving the subtle textured edge forming from alternating thick/thin yarn balls. Every stitch has a rhythm, and every row brings it to life.
