ETH GLOSSARY - "Primed Duck Strainer'
'Primed duck strainer' refers to our standard profile (thickness, usually 25mm / 32mm) canvas frame that does not have wedges / chocs / corner keys designed to tighten the canvas.
(Canvases WITH wedges are called 'stretchers', which we also supply)
We cut our strainers at 23mm, then stretch with 100% cotton duck canvas and double hand-prime.
Hence the term, 'Primed duck strainer'
(Unprimed duck strainers available on request. We also supply strainer frames only, without canvas, for if you want to stretch yourself)
For sizes up to 999mm x 999mm, no crossbars are installed, yielding a finished stretched depth of 25mm. All bars are rebated at 45° so the cloth doesn't touch the frame during painting.
For sizes 1000mm x 1000mm and above, crossbars are installed every 1000mm and a 7mm beading fitted, to prevent the cloth from touching the crossbars during painting and yielding a finished stretched depth of 32mm.
Ready to hang as is or be framed.
There is no difference in strength or integrity between our strainers and the thicker profile canvases (boxes) - it's purely aesthetic.
