"Creativity takes courage." — Henri Matisse
We tend to assume that courage is something we accumulate as we get older.
With age, we learn to handle tough conversations, navigate financial uncertainty, manage teams, and take calculated career risks. We start to believe we’ve built up a solid armour against the world.
Until we stand in front of a blank canvas, a new project, or a fresh piece of work and realize creative courage is an entirely different beast.
Why is it so hard to be courageous about what we create?
Because professional courage is often about managing what already exists.
Creative courage requires bringing something into existence that wasn't there before and putting a piece of ourselves into it.
As we mature, the stakes feel higher.
We have reputations to protect, fear being judged or misunderstood and struggle to let go of perfectionism in favor of ex*****on.
Consistent creation isn't just about skill or technique but about having the daily bravery to expose your work to the world, acknowledge its flaws, and release it anyway.
Courage isn't just standing up to external challenges. Sometimes, the highest form of courage is simply trusting your own vision enough to put it out there.
My message today is don't hold back. Don't overthink it. Post. Make that call. There's nobody judging you as harshly as yourself. you are brave and you are brilliant.
Keep creating. it's what you do.
