It’s a shame

Pastor George Zulu writes:

What happened last night at OYDC is deeply saddening and calls for sober reflection. The Night of Freedom, organized by Apostle Sunday Sinyangwe and the Standing in the Gap Team Prayer Ministry, has been an annual gathering for years — faithfully held every eve of the 23rd, without fail. It’s not a political rally. It’s a prayer convocation that has united believers from different corners of the country and beyond.

This year was no different. The event was well and consistently advertised for months; preparations were made; hundreds of believers gathered with faith and expectation. Then, around 21:00hrs — when worshippers had already filled the grounds — came the shocking announcement: the meeting was to be canceled due to a “clash” with a government program.

But one cannot help but ask: Which government program? How exactly did the church gathering “clash” with it? Why was there no prior communication if indeed there was a legitimate conflict? Why wait until people had prepared, prayed, fasted, traveled, and gathered to send them back home in the cold of the night?

Let’s be honest — such actions raise eyebrows. They paint a picture of disregard, not just for a man of God, but for the faith community at large. Because Standing in the Gap is not about Apostle Sunday Sinyangwe — it’s about what it stands for: intercession, unity, and national transformation.

I know some will quickly drag in old political sentiments — about what Apostle Sinyangwe once said regarding leadership transitions. But that matter was long settled. There was dialogue, reconciliation, and healing. In fact, not too long ago, last week we were fasting and praying as a nation for peace and reconciliation. So what is this? 😢

What happened at OYDC is therefore not just about one minister and one ministry — it touches the conscience of the body of Christ. To watch people prepare, gather, and then be dispersed without due consideration for their safety and faith is disheartening.

At the end of the day, one truth remains unshaken: no one wins a battle they begin against the Church. History has proven that again and again. This is not the time to politicize faith — it’s the time for every well-meaning Christian to speak up and condemn what’s wrong, peacefully but firmly.

We must guard our unity, preserve our voice, and remember that even when the world misunderstands us — the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church.

It’s sad to learn that a Christian’s event was canceled because of grudges🤦🏽🤦🏽
