How do you experiment without wasting supplies?
Experimenting is in my nature as a scientist and it shows through in my craft room. I often have little scraps of paper with mixed media techniques, I have a mixed media book I try and record experiments in so I can remember them and swatches with colours that match.
With my scrapbooking I experiment with new layout ideas by sketching them out to see if the concept works, trying it on one layout then replicating it with a different collection - this way you see if its one brand compatible or one collection compatible. I like to look at my albums as little experiments and when in a creative block I revisit layouts I know work to take some pressure off.
For cardmaking, well each card is a little experiment! For new stamps and dies I tend to mass create with them - doing a bulk lot of die cutting or stamping with them in different colours. Then when I have pockets of creative time I make a card with them, experimenting with rainbows, colour combinations, design concepts and background compatibility. Each card I take a photo of before donating or giving away so again, I have my own little gallery to call upon when in a creative block.
