We visited Cecilie Manz at her studio, where, with the new Post Lounge Chair as a point of departure, we spoke about craft, and the approach to her work designing the chair.’

In the conversation, a Danish word, nøjsomhed, seems to encapsulate the approach to her own craft: an idea somewhere between frugality, moderation and making the most of what one has. ‘

Fredericia products are crafted in Denmark and in collaboration with selected suppliers across Europe.

Keeping production close means shorter transport distances, closer relationships, and greater transparency throughout the value chain. It allows us to support local craftsmanship, maintain consistent quality and stay close to the people and processes behind each piece.

Sarah discovered the craft of upholstery almost by chance, but quickly recognised it as the right path. A newly trained upholsterer working at our workshop in Svendborg, she now works on technically complex sofas and iconic designs by Børge Mogensen and Hans J. Wegner. Sarah is part of a new generation carrying a longstanding craft forward, while continuing to develop it for the future.

We chatted to Sarah about her development as an upholsterer, teamwork and craft.

At Fredericia, upholstery is a craft shaped by knowledge, precision and experience. In our workshop in Svendborg, traditional techniques are combined with specialised skills to bring both technically complex sofas and iconic designs by Børge Mogensen and Hans J. Wegner to life.

Sarah is one of the upholsterers behind this work. As part of a new generation of craftspeople, she is helping carry this knowledge forward while developing her own expertise within the craft.

In our conversation with Sarah, we talked about upholstery, the knowledge shared in the workshop and the importance of keeping the craft alive.

Seto Ōhashi is Japan’s longest bridge, connecting the islands of Honshu and Shikoku. The bridge inspired the Seto Stool by Keiji Takeuchi, lending the design its distinctive H-structure and its name. Crafted in solid oak and canvas, the stool has a graceful, expressive profile that brings together heritage and modernity.

The Islets Table series by Maria Bruun is a precise design with a strong identity, based on a simple construction where details are kept to a minimum. The Islets Coffee Table, sculptural and minimal, as it is characteristic of the designer, finds a balance between a light feeling in its expression and its strong presence.

A glimpse inside Mogens Koch’s office at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, photographed in 1968.

Formerly home to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the building was where Koch worked and developed his architectural practice. Around him were pieces by some of the designers who shaped Danish modernism: Kaare Klint’s Klint Chair, Børge Mogensen’s J39 Chair and Koch’s own bookcase system.

A small snapshot of the design tradition that surrounded Koch – and that continues to influence Danish design today.
