Where do you actually start when designing your home?

I always recommend starting with inspiration — not furniture.

Collect inspirations, materials, spaces and details that naturally catch your eye. Then step back and look for the common thread. What atmosphere are you drawn to? Warm and calm? Minimal and architectural? Soft and layered?

From there, establish your color palette and material direction. These become the foundation of the space.

Only then should you start choosing the larger furniture pieces. And the accessories? They come last — they’re what bring personality, character and that final layer of warmth.

A beautiful interior is about understanding how everything works together.

Start with the inspiration and colors. The rest will follow. ✨

Lighting can completely shape the feeling of a living room. ✨

Think beyond one overhead light and create layers instead: a soft, warm glow from a floor lamp, a welcoming pool of light from a table lamp, and gentle overhead lighting to bring the room together.

Don’t be afraid to play with the details, too. Lampshades are a beautiful way to introduce colour, pattern and texture, adding personality while making the light feel softer and more inviting.

The goal isn’t just to light the room — it’s to create atmosphere, depth and a space that feels good to be in. 🤍

Choosing the right wall color is about more than simply finding a shade you love. 🤍

The same color can look completely different depending on the light, the time of day, and the atmosphere of your home.

Before making your final decision, I always recommend getting samples and painting at least two coats on the wall. Then, take your time to observe the color:

☀️ In natural daylight
🌙 In the evening
💡 Under your artificial lighting
🏡 Alongside your furniture, flooring, and other finishes

A color that looks perfect in the store may feel completely different once it’s in your space.

So don’t rush the decision. Live with the samples for a little while, watch how they change throughout the day, and choose the tone that feels right for your home.

It’s a simple step that can save you from a very expensive “I wish I had chosen differently.” ✨
