Your office is one of the most visible parts of the employee experience. So when it comes to making design decisions, your HR team should be involved.

HR teams work across wellbeing, culture, recruitment, retention and future growth. They understand what people need to feel good and work better.

When HR insight shapes the brief from the beginning, the result is a workplace that supports real people, real behaviours and the direction the business is heading in.

In our latest blog, we explore why office design matters to HR, and how the right workplace can help bring your people strategy to life.

Learning looks different for younger children. They need to explore, imagine, move and grow, and their environment should support that.

We’ve been thinking about this a lot as we work with Louise Toombs and Ellie McNicol on their second site, Little Woodlands Children’s Day Nursery, helping to shape a space designed around the way children learn, play and develop.

This project is especially close to home, with Kate McNicol working alongside her mother-in-law, Louise, and sister-in-law, Ellie.

Lots more to come, so stay tuned!

If you want people to feel more connected to the work they do, your office should help them remember their why.

Day-to-day work feels more meaningful when people can see the impact they’re making and the values that drive them. Having that purpose visible can have a real impact on motivation, engagement and overall wellbeing.

For businesses with a clear mission, the workplace can help bring that to life by showing the impact their work has on its customers or community. For global businesses, it could mean helping people see how their team or role fits into a much bigger story.

Everything from the artwork you display to the materials you choose can play a part in telling that story. When these details are used thoughtfully, the office becomes more than just a backdrop for work. It becomes a daily reminder of what the business stands for, why it matters and how each person contributes to it.

Lantra’s office had served them for a long time, but it no longer reflected how their teams worked.

Parts of the space dated back to the 1980s, attendance was low, and people were using the office selectively rather than seeing it as a place that supported their day.

The workplace assessment showed the scale of the opportunity:

• Employees rated the workplace 3.7/10
• The average time spent in the office was just 1.6 days per week
• 73% used the office selectively rather than as a main place of work

Together, we created a more open, connected and flexible workplace. Barriers between teams were removed, new collaboration areas were introduced, and the layout was shaped around how people actually spend their working day.

The result is a space that feels easier to use, easier to connect in, and much more aligned with Lantra’s next chapter.

Is your office helping people feel less lonely?

It might sound like an unusual question, but it’s becoming a really important one. As loneliness continues to be part of a much bigger conversation around public health and wellbeing, workplaces have a real opportunity to help people feel more connected.

A well-designed office can support that by creating spaces that make connection feel natural:

✨ Social spaces people actually want to spend time in
🪴 Welcoming environments that feel comfortable, not cold
🛋️ A mix of settings for casual chats, shared breaks and quieter moments together
🤝 Layouts that help build community, not just individual productivity

The workplace can’t solve loneliness on its own, but it can play an important part in helping people feel less isolated, more supported and more connected to the people around them.

“Sensory-friendly” doesn’t always mean quiet, neutral and low-stimulation.

While some people feel more comfortable in calmer environments, others thrive in spaces with more movement, colour and energy. Sensory preferences vary widely, for both neurodivergent and neurotypical people.

Some people may be more hyper-sensitive to their surroundings, where noise, lighting or visual activity can quickly feel overwhelming. Others may be more hypo-sensitive, and feel more focused, engaged and regulated in spaces with greater stimulation.

The most effective workplaces are designed with variety and choice in mind. Not every space needs to feel the same, but every person should be able to find a setting that supports how they work best.

Inclusive design starts by recognising that there is no single version of comfort, and no one-size-fits-all approach to sensory-friendly design.

If we want to support wellbeing at work, we need to treat it as a science, not a slogan.

Wellbeing is a hot topic, and it should be. Our mental and physical health affect every part of our lives, both in the office and at home, and businesses have a responsibility to support both.

The challenge is that a lot of conversations get caught up in what sounds right, without looking at the evidence behind it. Quarterly socials and office perks can absolutely play a part, but they are only one piece of a much bigger picture.

There is real science behind the way workplace design affects how people feel and function each day. Light, air quality, acoustics, comfort and access to spaces for focus, movement and restoration all impact wellbeing in meaningful ways.

Our WELL Accredited Professionals use that science-backed thinking to help create workplaces that do more than look good. They help shape environments that actively support the people using them, day in and day out.

Our trip to London for Workplace Design Show 2026 earlier this year left us with plenty to think about.

From creating workplaces that feel more people-focused, to building stronger communities, offering more choice and making sustainability more practical, this year’s conversations felt especially relevant to where workplace design is heading next.

The message running through it all was clear: the best offices are the ones that feel useful, supportive and worth being in.

Our latest blog shares the themes that stood out most to us and what they could mean for businesses rethinking their workplace.

A good workplace is never really “finished”.

Your business won’t sit still. Teams grow, working patterns change, priorities move on… and suddenly the office is set up for how you worked two years ago.

The good news is, evolving your space doesn’t have to mean one huge change.

Sometimes it is a full refurbishment that resets everything and brings the workplace back in line with where you’re heading. Other times, it’s smaller changes that make a big difference now, especially if you’ve designed the space to be flexible in the first place.

When a workplace evolves with your strategy, everything feels a bit easier.

New starters find their feet faster. Collaboration happens more naturally. Focus is less of a battle. And the space starts backing up the culture you’re trying to build, instead of accidentally nudging people in the wrong direction.

If you’ve got change coming this year, it might be worth asking: is your workplace set up for where you’re heading?

If you want to chat it through, drop us a message. Even a quick “here’s what’s changing for us” is enough to get started.
