Could the office cubicle be making a comeback? 👀

According to a recent Metro article, Gen Z seems to think so.

And with research from Oscar Acoustics finding that almost a quarter of 2,000 office workers surveyed have taken time off due to noise-related stress, perhaps it's not surprising.

But is bringing back the cubicle really the answer?

There's definitely something to be said for having a space to call your own. Some privacy, fewer distractions and more control over your working environment.

But for us, it's not as simple as choosing between cubicles and open-plan offices. The best offices give people choice, and make room for collaboration, concentration and personal space when it's needed.

So, are cubicles due a comeback, or can we design something better?

We’re getting better at talking about mental health. But are our workspaces keeping up?

With World Mental Health Day earlier this month, it's a good time to think about how we can better support people's wellbeing at work.

Of course, getting the basics right comes first. Supportive leadership, manageable workloads, good policies and a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up are all essential.

But we believe the spaces we work in have an important role to play too.

After all, we don't all feel our best every day, and what we need from our environment can change depending on how we're feeling.

Some days, a lively office and a good chat with colleagues are just what you need. Other days, a quiet space to gather your thoughts, a wellbeing room or somewhere to take five can make all the difference.

It's about giving people choice and creating environments that support connection, comfort and a little breathing room when it's needed.

Because a truly people-focused workplace isn't just designed around the work people do. It's designed around the people doing it.

25 years in business is something worth celebrating, but we didn’t want this year to be just about us.

Blueprint has always been built around people: our team, clients, partners, local community and the organisations doing brilliant work around us.

So, as part of our 25th year, we’re committing to do 25 Acts of Good.

Across the team, we’ll be supporting the causes we care about most. We’ll be fundraising, volunteering, raising awareness, giving our time and finding ways to make a difference.

A lot of people have played a part in Blueprint’s story over the last 25 years, so it feels right to use this milestone to continue to give something back too.

And we’d love for others to get involved along the way, whether that’s supporting one of the causes we share or taking a little inspiration and doing something good yourself.

A new chapter for Swim England, and a workplace designed to support it. 🏊

With a new organisational strategy, a new structure and hybrid working now part of everyday life, Swim England had changed a lot since its office was last refurbished more than 15 years ago.

So this project was about much more than giving the space a fresh look.

We introduced a neighbourhood concept to bring teams closer together, encourage more cross-team conversations and give people more choice in how they spend their time.

And we knew the space couldn’t change without bringing people along with it.

Surveys, workshops and plenty of opportunities to have a say helped employees understand what was changing and why. We even introduced new ways of working before the move, giving everyone time to get used to things gradually.

Sustainability shaped the project too. We reused existing furniture, reduced the number of printers and improved hybrid meeting technology to help cut unnecessary travel.

People are now choosing to spend more time in the office because it gives them something they can’t always get at home: time together.

Before we design the space, we get nosy.

Because we don’t want to guess what you need. We want to understand it properly from the people who know the space best.

We want to know where people naturally gather. Which meeting room is always booked. Which corner everyone avoids. What people love about the space now, and what little details get on their nerves.

We’ll look at what’s changing too. A growing team, closer collaboration between departments, a better welcome for clients or more choice in how people work can all shape what the space needs to do next.

All of that gives us a much clearer picture before we start thinking about what the space should look like.

The way we learn changes as we grow, so the spaces around us need to change too.

For our littlest learners, it starts with curiosity. Early years spaces need to support play, exploration and socialising, while staying safe and easy to manage.

In primary school, one classroom might host maths in the morning, hands-on art after break, group work before lunch and quiet reading later on. The more flexible that space is, the better.

By secondary school, students need more than somewhere to sit for a lesson. While specialist spaces support different subjects, students also need places to catch up with friends or focus when things get busy.

And at college and university, independence is everything. Students are making more choices about how they spend their time, so giving them a mix of quiet study spaces, collaborative areas and informal places to meet makes a real difference.

And of course, learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms. Libraries, cafés, common rooms, corridors and staff spaces all shape the experience.

When we began our work with Little Woodlands, one thing was clear: this was never going to be your traditional nursery.

It’s the second setting from the family behind Shardlow Hall Day Nursery, and after 14 years in early years education, they knew exactly how they wanted the space to feel.

A nursery that felt more like a home away from home than a classroom, with space for children to follow their curiosity, play freely and learn through doing.

Our role was to help turn that vision into something that worked in practice.

We worked closely with the team to test ideas, challenge where needed and focus the budget on the things that would make the biggest difference. Every part of the space had to earn its place, with decisions shaped around the needs of the children using it.

We also made room for the people looking after them, with dedicated staff spaces to plan together and step away from the busy nursery floor when they need to recharge.

The result is a nursery that feels calm, welcoming and full of possibility, giving children the right environment to explore, build confidence and enjoy those all-important early years.

Earlier this month we joined friends, clients and colleagues for another brilliant CAPS Charity Golf Day, which our very own John Tansur helped organise. ️

CAPS has always been about good people coming together for a good cause, and this year the chosen charity was Nottingham Women’s Centre, which provides a supportive space for self-identifying women to achieve their goals.

By the end of the day, more than £11,000 had been raised. A fantastic result, and a real credit to everyone who played, donated and supported the event.

There was plenty of friendly competition out on the course too, with some generous sponsors behind each challenge:

A big thank you also goes to 200 Degrees Coffee and Posh Nosh for keeping everyone refreshed and well fed throughout the day, as well as HEXA for providing breakfast and Willmott Dixon for sponsoring the evening meal.

It’s always great to catch up with familiar faces, meet new ones and see everyone joining in on the golf course - even if some of us are more familiar with office furniture than golf clubs!
