Black stairs, striped border, no mistakes allowed 👀

Herringbone flatweave runner with a striped bound edge, in at Minworth.

Stripes down the border mean the runner has to sit dead centre on every tread, with the same amount of black paint showing either side the whole way up. Off by a few millimetres and you see it from the bottom of the stairs.

A tight flatweave takes stair traffic and the bound edge keeps the sides clean.

Those points meeting dead on the line 👀

Chevron oak, in at Minworth.
Both ends of every board are cut on an angle, so the halves have to meet on one centre line the whole way across. Then it carries straight through to the hall with nothing breaking it up.

A mid oak like this sits well against pale units and hides daily marks better than a flat tone.

Grey oak against navy units, hard to beat 👌

Running the length of the room with the joins staggered so no two land together, then cut tight into the kick boards round the island. Straight runs like that show up every bad cut, so the line along the units has to be right.

A kitchen floor takes spills and traffic all day, and this mops over in minutes.

Straight run from the front door through 👌

Wood effect vinyl in a light oak, in at Minworth.

A narrow hallway is all edges. Planks running the length of it so the eye carries down to the door, joins staggered so no two land together, then cut tight along both skirtings and in behind the radiator pipes.

A hallway takes wet boots and grit all winter, and this wipes over in a minute.

Herringbone in a room this size is all cuts 👀

Ultragrip Eminence vinyl, in at Minworth.

Small bathroom, and almost nothing in it is a full piece. Scribed tight round the pedestal, in behind the radiator brackets and along every bit of skirting, with the points still landing square.

Vinyl in a bathroom shrugs off splashes and wipes over in a minute.

Big blocks, narrow hall, still square 👀

Wide block oak parquet, in at Minworth.

A hallway this tight is where set-out shows. Fewer joins means any drift off the centre line is obvious by the time you reach the far door, so it gets worked out before the first block goes down. Cut in clean round the understairs return too.

Wide blocks make a narrow hall read wider than it is.

Room to room, wall to wall, all one piece 👌

A living room this shape needs the drop planned first. Run it the right way and you get one clean sheet with no seam showing through the middle where everyone sits. Then it is scribed into the bay and cut tight round the window return.

A soft twist is the right shout for a lounge. Comfortable to sit on the floor with, and it hides footmarks better than a longer pile.
