McIntosh of Kirkcaldy - Rare Bookmatched Rosewood ‘space-saver’ Extending Dining Table + 4 Tuck-Under Chairs

The iconic Roundette dining set designed by Tom Robertson for A.H. McIntosh of Kirkcaldy — this is the highly sought-after RARE rosewood version, not the common teak.

Beautiful bookmatched grain with warm tones and rich colours throughout. A true mid-century statement piece.

Clever space-saving design:
• 4 chairs tuck completely under the table when not in use
• Hidden butterfly extension leaf stores neatly under the top — extends to seat up to 6
• Perfect blend of form and function — ideal for smaller spaces or entertaining

Dimensions:
• Closed: 122cm diameter / Extended: 168cm / Height: 75cm

Chairs are Model #4103

Condition is great for its age (60+ years), with the reassuring solid and sturdy original McIntosh quality. It has mild usage marks and patina but nothing unexpected. There is the usual colour difference between the leaves and main table top due to light fading. See photos.
The chairs are in great, original condition with the vinyl virtually perfect with no tears.

This example of this rare set is exceptional and a credit its one owner who cherished it through its life. The custom-made cover is testimony to how they valued their furniture.

1960s, blue label

Refurbished with beautiful grain. Fully stripped and refinished with Osmo wax oil and a top coat of bees wax giving a lovely, semi-gloss finish.

Elm top and beech legs, rectangular dropleaf dining table, on raised on tapering splayed legs.

Size (approx.): H71cm x W74 x L138cm (when folded 74 x 63cm)

Greaves & Thomas Long Sideboard, 1960s

Greaves & Thomas, a respected British mid-century furniture manufacturer, crafted this exceptional teak sideboard. One of my personal favourite makers of the era, G&T really thought about the details with this design - the sideboard boasts beautifully sculpted drawer fronts, recessed pull handles and elegant organic legs. Behind the drop-front compartment is a fitted serving section with a removable cutlery tray. Richly grained teak gives the sideboard a deep, vibrant colour and exceptional attention to detail. Its generous proportions make it a timeless and versatile statement piece.

People seem to suggest stripping off paint and returning pieces to original state is a matter of stripper, scrape, sand finish.

Not quite, they always need a bit more work than that.

This desk was weeks in the making, from painted ‘upcycled’ to what you now see…

Worth every minute.
