I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who commented, messaged and offered support after my last post. I honestly appreciate every single one of you.

Anyone who knows me knows that when it comes to my kids, I am the definition of a Mumma Bear 🐻❤️ and I will not give up until I know I have done everything possible to get them what they need.

I already home educate one of my girls because of failings within the education system, so I know that home education can absolutely be the right choice for some children.

But Zach is different.

He wants to go to school.
He wants to learn.
He wants to be around other children and have those experiences.

He just needs extra help, understanding and the right support to enable him to do it.

Home education isn’t the right option for him, and I refuse to accept that he should miss out on an education simply because the system isn’t providing a setting capable of meeting his needs.

So rest assured… this mummy isn’t giving up! 💪🐻

I’ve already been paying someone with experience in this area to help me fight his case and make sure we’re doing everything we possibly can.

There may have been a few tears this week, and I’ve definitely felt defeated at times, but that’s very different from being defeated.

So… watch this space. 👀

💔 This week, I lost my battle with the Local Authority for this awesome dude to attend a specialist school.

While social media is filling up with first-day photos, new uniforms and excited children heading off to secondary school, there are so many children like Zach who are being failed by our education system.

Zach should have started secondary school this week.

Instead, he has no suitable school to attend.

The Local Authority has decided that mainstream provision is appropriate for him, despite the mainstream school itself stating that it cannot meet his needs.

Just think about that for a moment.

A school is saying “we cannot meet this child’s needs”, yet the Local Authority is still naming that school in his EHCP. That isn’t fair on Zach, and it isn’t fair on the school being expected to provide something it has already said it cannot provide.

We will continue to fight this decision through the SEND Tribunal.

But our tribunal date isn’t for another 18 months.

Eighteen months.

For an 11-year-old child who needs an education now.

Children don’t get those 18 months back. Their education, friendships, confidence and childhood don’t simply go on pause while adults argue over funding, paperwork and provision.

Behind every SEND statistic is a real child and a family desperately trying to get them the education they are entitled to.

So when you see all those lovely first-day-of-school photographs this week, please spare a thought for the children who aren’t in them. The children at home because the right provision hasn’t been made available. The children whose parents are fighting systems they never imagined they’d have to fight simply to get their child an appropriate education.

I’m devastated that I couldn’t get the right school in place for Zach in time for September.

But I haven’t stopped fighting.

This awesome dude deserves an education where he can feel safe, understood and actually thrive — not simply a school place on a piece of paper. ❤️

And I’ll keep fighting for that for as long as it takes.

SEND children deserve better. Eighteen months is not an acceptable length of time for a child to wait for justice.

Summer has been wonderfully busy, and we’re glazing, firing and packing as fast as we can. Every extra call or collection check-in takes us away from actually getting the pottery ready.

You may notice it’s a little noisier than usual at Paint Pots at the moment! 🙉

The roof of The Centre is currently undergoing essential repairs, so unfortunately there may be some drilling, banging and general building noise while the work is carried out.

This work is completely beyond our control, but we’re really sorry for any disruption it may cause while you’re visiting us. 💜

🎨 Paint Pots is OPEN as usual and we’ll be doing our very best to keep the creativity flowing around the builders!

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding while these essential repairs are completed. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we’re back to the usual sounds of chatter, coffee machines and paintbrushes! ☕🎨💕

What a way to finish the summer holidays! 🥰 We are completely full today (Wednesday 2nd September) and can’t squeeze in any more painters.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has booked, visited, painted, printed, crafted and generally got creative with us over the summer. 💜🩷🩵
