Someone has claimed the top step again 🐾

A runner like this has to hold an even margin of white paint either side of every tread, and the weave has to stay square the whole way up. It all gets measured before anything is cut, because once you start it is too late to shift it across.

A tight natural weave stands up to the traffic a staircase gets, and claws do not pull at it the way they pull at a looser pile.

Hallways like this are why parquet came back 👌

Oak herringbone parquet, in at Groby.

Set out from a centre line down the length of the hall so the points stay dead central the whole way, then cut in square to every door frame. A long narrow hall shows up any drift within a few feet.

Running it lengthways stretches the hall out rather than chopping it into sections.

Green runner, brass rods, dark treads 👌

Green carpet runner with a cream bound border, in at Groby.

Every rod has to sit level with the one above it and the margins of timber have to stay equal the whole way up, or you see it the second you walk in. All measured before a single rod goes in.

The bound edge stops the sides fraying, and a runner leaves the stained treads showing either side.

Laid on the diamond, not square 👀

Black and white chequer vinyl, in at Groby.

Running it on the diagonal means every tile along the wall is a cut, and the points have to line up down both sides of the landing or the whole floor looks twisted. Set out from the centre first, always.

A pattern like this has to be set out from the middle before anything goes down. The weave runs in two directions at once, so any drift shows up at both walls rather than one. Cut in clean along the skirting and into the doorway.

Four things people panic about, and the actual fix 🤝

A snagged loop gets cut level, never pulled. Surface scratches on LVT usually buff out. Wax and gum come off with ice, never heat.
Burn marks though, leave those alone and ring us. A patch is often possible and rubbing it makes that harder.
