🎉 🎈 IT IS A TOKO’s FIRST BIRTHDAY! 🎈 🎉
Well, actually it was yesterday but I was exhausted from working all weekend. So today is the day I shall share my feelings of hope, joy & celebration as well as a video from our wonderful launch party!
As years have a tendency to do, this one has absolutely flown by!But in that time, we have secured the stocking of our furniture in two shops: @twocolumbiaroad and now also @cevizlondon too. We have sold our first shipment of furniture and are now eagerly awaiting our second (due to arrive in September).
We have successfully designed, built and installed our first bespoke work and have even more en route to us as we speak. Please check out the incredible @mariaalexanderspaboat to see the wonderful bench we made and installed into their spa boat! (Which will be open to the public soon - so go and check it out!)
We are very excited to announce that we are adding multiple new designs to our collection; including new chairs, new colours and now even beds too (so watch this space!).
We have also recently hit 2500 followers and that is just amazing! I am honestly so grateful and proud to have you all take an interest in what we do. It really is an honour to have you all with us. I took the official tour around the Barbican and I really can’t recommend it enough.
I went during Ibrahim Hibiscus’s art installation, where Hibiscus has draped over 2000 square metres of bespoke woven cloth over the ‘Lakeside Terrace’. Rather amusingly, our tour guide, an absolute master on the Barbican, was more than a little peeved about the exhibit’s covering of his prized Estate.
The grade two listed Barbican Estate was built between 1965 & 1976 and consists of approximately 2000 flats. It went hundreds of millions over budget and stands now as one the finest examples of Brutalist architecture anywhere in the world and also, perhaps more importantly, as an example of design-led communal living and how utterly fantastic it can be.
There is so much to say on the Barbican that I don’t really know where to start. So, I’ve decided to share two of my favourite facts about the Barbican and implore you to go to the tour yourselves to learn more.
Did you know that the textured exterior of the poured concrete was all done by hand??
A had picked team of workers chipped each and every indentation.
Also, did you know that that the original intention was to have the whole barbican clad in white marble!! I mean, can you imagine…
