✨ MONDAY MAKES ✨

A little peek behind the scenes at DriftwoodBeachCo today… and sometimes the journey to the finished piece isn't quite as glamorous as the final photographs suggest! 😂

These octopus wall hangings start life right here on my workbench, using crushed shells beachcombed from the Kent Coast, carefully placed into the moulds before being encapsulated in clear resin.

Once cured and removed from their moulds, all those tiny fragments of shell become part of the finished design, creating beautiful natural colours, textures and markings that mean no two octopuses will ever be exactly the same. 🐚🐙

I absolutely love seeing the transformation from a collection of little beachcombed shell fragments into a completely finished piece of coastal wall art.

It's also another way I can make use of the smaller and broken shell pieces I find, giving something that might otherwise be overlooked a whole new purpose. 🌊🤍

Who says palm trees are just for summer? 🎄🌴

🌊♻️ SUSTAINABLE SATURDAY ♻️🌊

Beachcombed • Repurposed • Handmade

Sustainability isn't just a word I use to describe DriftwoodBeachCo — it's something I try to think about at every stage, from what I pick up on the beach to the packaging your order arrives in.

One of the most important parts of beachcombing responsibly is simple:
Only take what you're actually going to use.
It can be incredibly tempting when you spot a beach covered in beautiful shells, sea glass and driftwood to fill your bags! 😂 But just because something is there doesn't mean we need to take it all.

I collect carefully and selectively, taking the pieces I know I can give another life through my creations and leaving plenty behind. 🌊🐚
The same thinking continues once I'm back in my little workspace.

Where possible, I reuse, repurpose and upcycle materials, from genuine sea glass naturally tumbled by the sea to beachcombed shells and driftwood, and even glass jars that can be transformed into beautiful coastal pieces rather than being thrown away.

And sustainability doesn't stop with the product itself. 📦♻️

I also carefully consider the packaging I use for DriftwoodBeachCo orders, choosing sustainable and plastic-free options wherever possible. It might seem like a small thing, but when lots of small businesses and customers make more thoughtful choices, those little changes add up.
For me, DriftwoodBeachCo has always been about celebrating the treasures our coastline gives us without taking more than we need.
Creating something beautiful shouldn't have to come at the expense of the place that inspired it. 🌿🌊

🤣 MENOPAUSE BRAIN STRIKES AGAIN! 🙈

Well… I’ve absolutely excelled myself this week! 😂

On Wednesday, I was happily posting Thoughtful Thursday…

Then on Thursday, apparently it was Finds Friday in my world. 🤦‍♀️🤣

Which means today is ACTUALLY Friday and I’ve already used my Friday post. Brilliant. 👏😂
So here we are… Menopause Brain Friday it is! 🤣
Running a small business means wearing approximately 427 different hats at once, and apparently knowing what day of the week it is isn’t currently one of them! 🙈

At least I’m consistent… consistently one day ahead of myself! 😂

Normal service will resume shortly… although I’m making absolutely no promises. 🤣🌊

Please tell me I’m not the only one who completely loses track of what day it is?! 👇😂

🌊 Finds Friday 🌊

It’s Finds Friday, and I thought I’d share just some of the things I find whilst beachcombing along our beautiful Kent Coast. 💙

Of course, there are the treasures I’m always hoping to spot like sea glass, seashells, beach pottery and driftwood which eventually find their way into my DriftwoodBeachCo creations. 🐚

But beachcombing isn’t only about taking home the pretty things.

I also collect old rope and discarded fishing gear that has washed ashore. Where possible, I clean and repurpose the rope in my creations like the bases of my lamps giving it a new lease of life whilst also removing something that could potentially entangle wildlife and marine life. 🪢🌊

And then there’s the less glamorous side… plastic! ♻️

If I find plastic whilst I’m beachcombing, it comes off the beach with me too and is disposed of responsibly, recycling wherever possible.
So although I might head to the beach looking for treasures, I like to think I leave it just a little bit cleaner than I found it. 💚

I’m absolutely delighted that this stunning 12" Blue & White Seahorse Beach Pottery Wreath has found its new home… all the way in Australia! 🦘

Handcrafted using beautiful pieces of blue and white beach pottery, with a statement seahorse at its centre, natural rope detailing and seashells, this really is a one-of-a-kind DriftwoodBeachCo creation.

One of the things I love most about creating unique pieces like this is discovering where in the world they eventually end up. 🌍💙

🌊 THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY 🌊

Today I thought I’d share a little bit about why I create the way I do.

So many of my creations begin with something that has already had a life — a piece of sea glass washed ashore, a beautiful shell found along the Kent Coast, a piece of driftwood shaped by the sea or even a glass jar waiting to be given a new purpose.

I love taking these simple coastal treasures and turning them into something beautiful that can be enjoyed all over again. 🤍

Sustainability has always been an important part of DriftwoodBeachCo. Wherever possible I beachcomb, reuse, repurpose and upcycle. Creating pieces that are not only beautiful, but have their own little story too.
Because sometimes the things others might walk straight past can become something rather special. 🌊✨

There’s something so wonderfully traditional about a robin at Christmas ❤️

These beautiful Christmas tree ornaments are handcrafted using genuine scallop shells measuring approximately 2"–3", each featuring a gorgeous festive robin perched on a holly branch.
Each shell is carefully coated with UV resin, giving it a beautiful glossy finish whilst also adding extra durability and protection. ✨
