A Kent Coast Treasure

There's something truly special about finding a sea glass marble washed ashore, and this beautiful Ribbon Swirl marble is no exception.
Featuring a soft seafoam green base with delicate white ribbon-like swirls, this stunning marble has spent decades being shaped by the sea. Its frosted surface and gentle weathering are nature's proof of a long journey through the surf, transforming it into a genuine piece of sea glass.
Ribbon Swirl marbles are often recognised by their handmade construction, which can include tiny bubbles, slight imperfections and subtle nicks in the glass — all part of their charm and history. Each one tells a story of traditional craftsmanship and a life once spent in children's games before being reclaimed by the ocean.
This particular beauty was discovered whilst beachcombing along the Kent Coast, making it an extra special addition to my collection of coastal finds.

There’s something magical about starting the week by slowing down and reconnecting with nature. Whether it’s a walk along the shoreline, listening to the waves or searching for treasures hidden amongst the pebbles, the sea has a wonderful way of restoring both mind and soul.
As many of you know, beachcombing is where my creativity begins. Every piece of genuine sea glass I collect from the Kent Coast has been shaped by years of tides, waves and time before finding its way into one of my handmade creations.

So before the Monday madness begins, take a moment to breathe, pause and enjoy your daily dose of coastal therapy. 🌊✨

A Day in the Life of Me 🤎

Many of you know me as the face behind DriftwoodBeachCo, but what some of you may not know is that alongside my husband Simon, we also own and run – two self-catering holiday apartments in the heart of Broadstairs.

So what does a typical day look like for me?

☕ Wake up 🐾 Get Strike up (the 18 year old sleepy sausage) ☕ Grab a much-needed coffee 📧 Check emails for DriftwoodBeachCo orders and apartment bookings 🏡 Message guests with check-out reminders and arrival information 🧺 Sort apartment laundry 🚗 Load up the car

Then it's off to the apartments to clean on changeover day's with Chloe from . Not only is she my youngest son's girlfriend, but she's also my right-hand woman at pop-ups and markets. Together we clean, prepare and reset the apartments ready for the next guests.



Once I'm back home, it's time for even more laundry (the glamorous side of running holiday lets! 😂), reload the machines, grab some lunch if I'm lucky, and then finally sit down to work on DriftwoodBeachCo orders.

On the days we're not at the apartments, you'll usually find Chloe and me wandering the Kent coastline beachcombing. Those are my favourite days. It's our chance to switch off, unwind, breathe in the sea air and hunt for treasures that may eventually find their way into one of my creations.

Running two businesses keeps me incredibly busy, but I genuinely wouldn't have it any other way. Every order, every guest booking, every beach walk and every piece I create is done with love.

🐚 Whelk Wednesday 🐚
One of the most recognisable treasures found along our coastline is the humble whelk shell.
A whelk shell is the sturdy, spiral casing of a carnivorous sea snail. Known for its beautiful tapered shape and distinctive swirling ridges, these shells are a familiar sight on beaches around the UK. If you look closely, you'll notice the large opening, which once housed the whelk and was protected by a natural trap door called an operculum.

As the whelk grows, it creates new layers of shell, forming the elegant spiral pattern that makes each one unique. Once abandoned, these shells often wash ashore these are known as spent and that’s when I collect them along the shoreline and use them to create beautiful lamps.

I never tire of finding whelk shells whilst beachcombing. Their soft cream and sandy tones perfectly capture the colours of our coastline, and every one tells a story of the sea.

🌊 World Ocean Day 2026 🌊

Today we celebrate the incredible oceans that cover more than 70% of our planet and support all life on Earth.

As a coastal creator and passionate beachcomber, I am constantly inspired by the sea. Every piece of sea glass, every shell, every tide-worn treasure I use in my creations has been shaped by the power and beauty of our oceans.
The ocean gives us so much – the air we breathe, the food we eat, the wildlife we cherish, and the stunning coastlines we love to explore. Yet our oceans face increasing challenges from pollution, climate change, and habitat loss.

World Ocean Day is a reminder that even small actions can make a difference:

💙 Leave beaches cleaner than you found them 💙 Support sustainable businesses
💙 Respect marine wildlife and habitats
💙 Inspire future generations to care for our seas

Here at DriftwoodBeachCo, sustainability is at the heart of everything I create. By using genuine beachcombed treasures and recyclable packaging, I hope to celebrate our coastline while encouraging others to protect it.
