Bathroom shutters can work brilliantly — but only if you pick the right material and layout.

Steam, splash and daily condensation punish the wrong spec. Fabric blinds go stiff. MDF swells. Timber without the right grade fails in humidity.

What actually works:

• Waterproof ABS or humidity-rated faux wood — not MDF
• Full-height above the bath; café-height at basin level
• Louvres angled for privacy with daylight (not a dark cave)
• Realistic 2026 costs — typically high-two-hundreds to mid-hundreds for a single window
• What we check on survey: splash zone, extractor, reveal depth

A little update from us ❤️
My health is still playing a little havoc with me at present, so this year we decided to switch up our usual wedding anniversary tradition of long countryside walks.
Instead, we enjoyed a lovely meal at The Ivy — and we would highly recommend it! The service was impeccable, and the fresh, seasonal menu was absolutely delicious.
Sometimes it’s nice to slow down, do things a little differently, and simply enjoy the moment. 🥂❤️

After 24 years of marriage, Mark and I suddenly realised something rather shocking — we had never had a full week away together, just the two of us, without the children or grandchildren!

So, for the first time ever, we decided to close the office doors for a whole week and enjoy some much-needed time together.

Of course, with all the beautiful weather we’ve been having, we managed to pick the one week that brought torrential rain and thunderstorms! 😂

We started off in our lovely, secluded little beach hut in Devon, but after being thoroughly soaked, we decided it was time for a change of scenery. So, we packed up and headed to Bath and Bristol for a couple of nights instead.

It hasn’t quite gone to plan, but had a wonderful time together — and, after 24 years, we’re certainly not going to let a bit of British weather spoil it! ❤️

Not every shutter has slats.

Solid panel shutters are timber panels that open and close like internal doors — recessed detailing, visible hinges, ring pulls. When they’re shut, you get a much more complete cover over the glass than a louvred plantation shutter.

They suit period sash windows, street-facing bedrooms and anyone who wants a darker room at night. The trade-off: you lose that all-day tilt of the louvres. Fold them back when you want the window clear.
