You can’t find the thing you need.
You buy a new one.
Leave it out so you know where it is, if walk around with it in your hand and up up putting it somewhere safe.
It gets lost under piles.
You need to tidy.
It gets shoved in a drawer or bag.
The cycle starts again.

DeclutterCon Speaker Announcement!!

The fabulous Heidi Mavir is joining us at DeclutterCon for our Neurodivergent Panel - Discussing how Neurodivergence impacts our Homes.

If you don't know Heidi yet, buckle up. She's a Sunday Times bestselling author of Your Child Is Not Broken. Part autobiography, part parenting manual, Your Child Is Not Broken is a no-holds-barred account of Heidi's discovery of her child's neurodivergence.

It is the funny, irreverent and brutally honest story of Heidi's fight to be seen, heard, and supported, whilst swimming against a tide of parent-blame, ableist stereotypes, and the weight of other people's opinions. It is the book no one has dared write but every parent needs to read.

She’s also an award winning activist, a podcaster, and mum to an autistic/ADHD teenager, and ‘Professional Gobsh*te’.

She's been on BBC National News, in The Guardian, in The Sunday Times, and has built an online community of 15,000 families who get exactly what it's like to be figuring all this out without a manual.

Back in 2018 her son Theo hit crisis point in mainstream school, undiagnosed and unsupported. Heidi took his case all the way to SEN Tribunal and won him the education package he needed.

She's talked openly about what that process did to her own mental health as a parent, and that honesty is exactly why she's perfect for our panel. When we chatted about our homes I loved Heidi’s take and suggestions on what works for her home, and I can’t wait for her to share them with you too.

She's now stepped back from 1:1 advocacy work now (there's only one of her) and is instead training other people to do it, through Start Strong Stay Strong. If you're navigating EHCPs, tribunals, or fighting your corner for your child, have a look at this: https://eotasmatters.kartra.com/page/STARTSTRONGSTAYSTRONG

She also loves giraffes and will happily tell you giraf-facts given half a chance, drinks Yorkshire Tea like it's a personality trait (oh how well matched we are), and owns a leopard print sofa that cost more than her car. So basically, one of us.

Heidi joins Xanthe Palmer and Kim Reeves on our ND Panel which is going to help you understand different strategies you can try, an understanding of different ways of thinking, and give you permission to drop the shame about your home.

What would be different about your life if your home was how you wanted it?

What would you do that you can’t do now?

For years I never allowed anyone in my house.

Now I have trades people in to fix stuff, a boiler serviced each year, a chimney sweep in once a year, a hairdresser, a dog walker, MiniTingle has friends over. (I thought I’d be having parties but I’ve not had one as I realised I’m not a party person after all!)

I couldn’t have done that before.

What’s the one thing you’d love to do, that your home stops you from doing?

Things I’ve learned today:

I need to hurry up my extension cos I want a beautiful kitchen (not to cook in, but to make cups of tea in).

I need to remember meta glasses film from the top of the glasses, not where my eyes are 😳

I need a cleaner, my sides may be clean but the kitchen from the viewpoint of sitting on the floor isn’t.

I needed a new system for medical stuff, the old one wasn’t working. Only a small tweak needed though.

I may never need to buy paracetamol ever again.

It’s a good job I’ve got a bigger paper recycling bin with all the recycling to put in it!

Jelonet is minging (especially when you can’t google it cos your phone is busy filming and you don’t know what it is so you stick your fingers in it).

My brain still defaults to keeping things cos they’ll come in handy but emotions based decluttering WORKS.

I need a new fire blanket (especially important given my dislike of/and absent mind when cooking!)

Before and after photos on my own declutter will either make you realise I’m human, don’t have the perfect house and I get the struggle - or I’ll be cancelled 🙈😂

Full video coming to DeclutterCon ticket holders on Sunday x the questions I asked myself to get to the decisions I made, and the 3 changes I made which means it’ll be easier to maintain in future.

Goal - £60 by end of September.
Declutter number 1 - current total £0
Items found to sell £50-80.

When we work together you get the tools to know what to do when I’m not there. The plan is to not need me, (although I’ll always be on hand if you get stuck) but for you not to be reliant on me to sort your space.

For me to have given you the tools and knowledge to not feel intimidated or overwhelmed when you need to tidy… because unless you’re a robot, or living the most minimalist lifestyle, things will get messy!

That’s ok.

There’s a difference between mess and clutter!!

Mess is a fact of life.
Mess shows things in use.

It’s only a problem if putting them away is hard or impossible, is rare, or it interferes with daily life and what you want to do. If that’s the case, you’ve not finished your organising yet.

However it’s great to see that Cat’s desk where she is sooo creative, was able to be sorted quickly and without stress (minus the stress of vole rehoming!) because if the work we did together ❤️ xx

🚨 fact alert 🚨 did you know the elephant shrew is more closely related to the elephant than the shrew and is in fact not a rodent.

I (the dogs) located a very cute (but essentially incorrectly located) vole living under my desk trying to sustain itself on an earplug.

An actual live, wiggly nosed vole.

After creating a funnel maze for it to get it into a box and back in the wild I had to admit it was time to tidy.

I hate tidying! But I’ve previously had the excellent Heather Tingle over to body-double and detangle and so this time I knew I just needed some music and water and I had both the knowledge that I could do it, the system of pulling it all out and the way we separated it before, and places for things to go.

My desk is now ready for me to hit back-to-school freedom and illustrate final drafts of my book!

Heather is running the very exciting first ever DeclutterCon in October and I’m so excited to be there to provide a little chillout space (watch or join in!) in amongst the excellent speakers and event moments.

There are still a few tickets left. I’d strongly suggest that if organising is something you find hard, and you want a shame-free friendly supportive gang of people to body double with, and to learn some really nice skills, to come along or follow Heather.

I’m not being paid for this, it’s not an ad, it’s a heartfelt recommendation 🥰

Ps. There are now no rodents living under my desk.

Pps. Go and search ‘elephant shrew’ you’re welcome.

DECLUTTERCON ANNOUNCEMENT:

I'm so happy to announce that Kimberley Reeves will be joining us on the panel to talk about neurodivergent homes.

Kim is the founder of The Bluebird Academy of Education, combining professional expertise with lived experience of disability and neurodiversity.

As an Independent Educational Specialist, she has spent years supporting children and families who learn differently, helping them build confidence through personalised education and practical strategies. She is also the creator of Palden, a range of dyslexia-friendly notebooks designed to support people with dyslexia and visual stress.

Her passion for creating accessible environments extends far beyond the classroom. As the mum of a daughter with Tourette syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and additional learning needs, Kim has spent years navigating hospital appointments, education, advocacy and the daily challenge of creating a home that works for everyone. She also lives with Type 1 diabetes and other long-term health conditions herself, giving her first-hand experience of balancing disability, parenting, work and everyday life.

Those experiences have shaped the way Kim approaches both education and home life. Rather than striving for perfection, she believes in creating environments that reduce overwhelm, conserve energy and allow people to thrive in ways that work for them. Whether it’s adapting routines, rethinking organisation, or helping families see behaviour through a different lens, Kim is passionate about practical solutions that make a meaningful difference.

At DeclutterCon, Kim will share honest stories, everyday adaptations and simple mindset shifts that have transformed life for her family and many of the families she supports. Her message is simple: our homes shouldn’t expect us to fit them- we should shape our homes to support the people who live in them

DECLUTTERCON TICKET HOLDER BONUS:

When I was fifteen, doing my GCSEs, deep in undiagnosed depression and undiagnosed autistic and ADHD, my school report said “she needs to concentrate on one thing, rather than taking too much on at once.” Probably good advice. But also lololololol ha ha. Never happened and probably never going to either. I had a Saturday job, I was in a play, I was meant to be revising but I was spending all hours I could in a place I loved to escape to, a theatre with a wonderful bunch of eclectic people. I had a great time and excelled in my exams (and except Maths and Spanish!).

So - fast forward to now and, yep, I’m still doing seventeen things at once. I have a lot on, but I’m also protecting my mental health/rest time, and I ADORE what I do, who I work with and what I’m working towards with DeclutterCon. It’s not too much.

Working with clients, elbow deep in DeclutterCon planning every single day, and this week I’ve just signed up to a business course I really want to do. Only trouble is it’s £60 a month, and with all my money going into DeclutterCon, that £60 isn’t really something I should be spending. (But I never really listen to ‘should’s).

So I’ve come up with idea and it involves YOU.

I haven’t done a proper full maintenance declutter in ten years, just little top ups here and there. I’m going to do one now, sell what I find, and somehow get that £60 back. Filmed in real time, thinking out loud, asking myself the questions I ask clients, so you hear me making the decisions, and then showing me selling it to get the money in. You can watch along and body double with me while I do it.

It’s going to be a real challenge. My home, on camera (crackers cats, probably some dust and hidden skeletons too!)

It’s exclusive for DeclutterCon ticket Holders. Every Sunday you get a ticket holders email update and from THIS WEEK you’ll get a video update of this included. Straight to your inbox, watching the whole thing unfold, to keep me accountable each week.

If you haven’t got your ticket yet, get it before Sunday so you can follow along from the beginning!

Reckon I can get £60 out of a home that’s already pretty decluttered in a month? Tell me what you think!
