An antique Japanese silk embroidered wallhanging dating from the Meiji Period (1868–1912). With red-crowned cranes (tancho) amidst blooming cherry blossoms (sakura). In Japanese culture, cranes symbolize longevity, fidelity, and good fortune, while cherry blossoms represent the beautiful, transient nature of life.

Rare and fine antique silk and gilt thread embroidered apron : C18th England
This is not an apron as we think of them today, but was worn as a decorative layer on top of a dress or costume, which added interest and pattern.
Highly skilled pieces of embroidery such as this were made solely to display an 18th century woman’s prowess with the needle. The large scale of the symmetrical floral design is typical of the early decades of the 18th c. The narrow gold metallic threads are expertly worked in a heavier weight of both gold and silver threads in a variety of complicated embroidery techniques.
