Meet Pom Pom, the little ball of fluff. 🤍🐹

Tiny paws, round cheeks, delicate whiskers, and a whole lot of personality packed into one very small hamster.

There’s something especially endearing about dwarf hamsters. From their curious little noses to the way they scurry about with such determination, these tiny companions have a wonderful way of making even the simplest moments memorable.

For Pom Pom’s preservation, we wanted to capture those little details that made him so recognisable — his fluffy coat, sweet expression, and the gentle charm of a much-loved companion.

It’s often the smallest things we remember most. The familiar sound of tiny paws, the excitement of a favourite treat, and those quiet moments spent watching them explore their little world.

Though Pom Pom may have been small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, the memories he leaves behind are immeasurable.

Little paws. Big personality. Forever Pom Pom. 🤍

Fluffy the duck 🤍🦆

Soft, speckled, and full of quiet charm.

Ducks have such a gentle presence — the smooth curve of the bill, the layered feathers, the rounded body, and that calm, watchful expression that makes them feel both delicate and full of character.

For Fluffy, this preservation was about keeping her sweet pet-like nature intact. Not just a specimen, but a little companion remembered for who she was: familiar, soft, and loved.

Domestic ducks come in so many beautiful forms, many descended from the Mallard species — each with their own colours, markings, and personality. Fluffy’s pale cream tones and patterned feathers made her especially lovely to preserve.

A gentle little duck.
A soft feathered memory.
Forever Fluffy.

Say hello to this absolute freshwater icon — the Datnoid Tiger Fish.

Bold, glossy, and impossible to ignore, datnoids get their “tiger” name from those dramatic black bars running across a golden body. Even in preservation, the pattern gives the fish so much attitude — like it’s still watching the room.

Fish taxidermy is a challenge of texture and detail. The scales, fins, mouth shape, eye placement, and body form all need careful attention to keep the specimen looking balanced, natural, and full of presence.

For this piece, we wanted to highlight everything that makes datnoids so striking: the heavy head, strong profile, spined dorsal fin, glassy eye, and bold striped pattern.

A little fierce.
A little prehistoric.
Very much a statement piece.

George 🤍🖤

Caught in his most serious “do not disturb, I’m loafing” pose.

Some cats have a dramatic elegance.
Some cats have royal energy.
George had that perfect sleepy, grumpy, slightly judgmental charm that only a well-loved cat can pull off.

For this preservation, we wanted to keep that familiar little personality — the relaxed loaf, the soft closed eyes, the folded paws, and the quiet “I own this house” presence.

A sleepy king.
A professional loafer.
Forever George.

DiscovHER 2026: where curiosity meets courage 🦋🔬✨

Black Crow Taxidermy & Art was honoured to be part of DiscovHER 2026 at Science Centre Singapore, sharing a free educational booth and butterfly pinning workshop with the next generation of curious minds.

Through hands-on specimen work, students explored the intersection of biology, natural history, conservation, and art — proving that STEM is not only about formulas and lab coats, but also about observation, creativity, care, and wonder.

It was especially inspiring to see so many young women engaging boldly with science: asking thoughtful questions, handling specimens with confidence, and discovering new possibilities within STEM.

Here’s to more girls in science, more women in STEM, and more spaces where curiosity can take flight 🦋

DiscovHER 2026 : 📍 Science Center Singapore

What if a butterfly could change the way you see science? 🦋

This week, we welcomed an incredible group of secondary school girls who stepped into the fascinating world of butterfly pinning and natural history. For many, it was their first encounter with preserved specimens—not behind museum glass, but right at their fingertips.

Together, we explored butterfly anatomy, the remarkable diversity of species, and the science behind ethical specimen preservation. As they carefully positioned each wing, they discovered that patience, observation, and precision are just as important in biology as they are in art.

We love seeing young minds ask thoughtful questions, challenge what they thought they knew about taxidermy, and leave with a new appreciation for the natural world. Science isn’t only found in laboratories—it can be discovered through creativity, conservation, and hands-on experiences that spark lifelong curiosity.

To every student who joined us: keep asking questions, keep exploring, and never stop being curious. Today’s butterfly pinning workshop might just be the first step in tomorrow’s journey into STEM. 💚

Fresh off the mounting stand. 🖤

Crows are among the most intelligent birds on Earth — capable of recognising faces, solving problems, and remembering negative experiences for years.

That intelligence is part of what makes corvid taxidermy so fascinating to preserve.

Unlike many birds, crows carry an incredibly expressive posture. The angle of the head, feather tension around the neck, wing balance, and eye placement all dramatically affect whether the mount feels truly “alive.”

Their feathers also aren’t simply black. Under proper lighting, microscopic feather structures reflect iridescent tones of blue, violet, and green — details that require careful grooming and positioning during the mounting process to preserve their natural depth and sheen.

Avian taxidermy is often less about the skin itself, and more about rebuilding anatomy, posture, and movement feather by feather.

Tiny gothic menace.
Museum specimen energy.
