This fireplace, if you can believe it, began with a gray-white stained brick surround! We reimagined it in quartzite, then continued the room’s molding into the custom mantel and trim. The finishing details are just as lovely: rich cognac leather, a watercolor-inspired throw pillow, and a pair of contrasting sconces. One in classic warm brass, the other with a powder-blue detail that introduces an unexpected vintage note, yet feels perfectly at home in this room’s traditional style.

This fireplace was once all brick! Now, custom built-ins frame handcrafted tile sourced in Southern California, the detail that inspired the name of this project: the Pasadena Bungalow! I drew each tile to scale and planned its placement around the fireplace prior to production. For our clients, who relocated to Coeur d’Alene from California, this detail brings a familiar touch of home to this space. 🩵

I still love the way all of these materials came together in this bathroom, this many years later! The glossy blue tile has the prettiest variation in color, almost like a watercolor painting. The round, frameless mirror is another favorite detail! Its built-in LED lighting gives us that beautiful, soft glow without needing a traditional vanity light above it.
