HONEY HARVEST TIME!

Bee-man Bruce harvested his hives this week and is pleased with the bounty of liquid gold. Bottling has begun and will soon be available at FTSG.

Here you see Bruce cutting off the wax cap on each frame of honey. (We collect the wax for use in making our moisturizing whip and lip balm.) The video offers you a view of the honey extractor in action... loaded up with 18 frames of honey for each spin. THIS YEAR we extracted the honey at the warehouse of Beekeepers.com who offer to rent all of the needed equipment to extract honey. They also provide for us all of our needed beekeeping materials. Look 'em up if you are interested in beekeeping!

Something to note... the color of the country honey and the city honey is VERY similar... AND clearly marked on the labeling.

The rich texture and variety of handmade papers make this an unexpected material to craft a beautiful wreath, but also to create an intriguing piece of artwork, different from a floral wreath. Starting with interesting papers, both handmade and patterned, you will add passages of color to each of the papers with watercolors and iridescent finishes. Written words can also be added for additional interest. The papers will be torn and cut into pieces and assembled on a wreath form, ready for hanging.

8/15 RUSTIC HOUSE PLANTING CONTAINER STUDIO $55
2hours and 30 minutes

This house container is charming, planted up with sedums and moss rose. It is perfect to include it in a larger fairy garden when planted with moss, sedum or thyme for a living roof look. The trick to make the roof work is to pat the soil firmly into the container following the slant of the roof. You will learn to mix hypertufa an d to cast the house using a foam mold complete with windows and a door. Then you'll cast it using hypertufa and allow it to cure and dry for a week. Return at a time that works for you to remove from the mold and clean up. Take home ready to plant.

Start with a simple body form of lightweight hypertufa to make this whimsical angel. Start with a simple body form of lightweight foam to make this whimsical angel. You will use several techniques in the making of this angel, including carving, modeling in paper clay, attachments, and paint. Add features and embellishments with other mixed media as you see fit. A pair of wings will set it in flight, ready to keep watch over your home.

7/30 DOWEL SPINE ACCORDION BOOK STUDIO
Create a unique small journal/scrapbook using handmade paper along with a variety of other papers suitable for writing. This book is bound with a series of three dowels and paper slots rather than stitching. It also features a unique accordion-fold section that extends from the body of the book. In the first session, the cover and spine will be created, as well as the accordion-folded section. At the end of the first session, pieces will be pressed in a book press and dried for assembly in the second session. Select the time for finishing at the first session that works best for you.

MOSAIC BIRD BASIN
Birds just love this water basin or shallow birdbath that can be placed on a stump, a stack of bricks, or on a small pile of stones, even an overturned flowerpot. Create the mosaic in the first session and leave overnight to set and dry. Pick up at your convenience the next day or two.
