This might be a little too much information, but when you work in a flower shop, death is part of your everyday life. You help people say goodbye, and somewhere along the way, you start thinking about your own.

I’ve already told my mom what I’d want for my flowers someday or, in my case, my greenery.

Give me trailing vines, sweeping branches, and layers of green. A little wild. Full of texture and movement. Something that feels like it’s still growing.

To me, greenery is a painting. Every leaf adds a brushstroke, every shade adds depth. It gives an arrangement its lushness, connects the flowers, and makes the whole thing feel complete.

I think that’s why I love it so much. There’s something beautiful about the way it takes up space while making everything around it more beautiful, too.

That feels like a good way to live: deeply rooted, a little wild, always growing and helping the people around me bloom.

NOT MY NORMAL CONTENT……

A Little Passenger, No Helmet, and a Moment I Can’t Shake

As I was leaving work today, I saw a motorcycle with a young child riding on the back. The child looked five or six—possibly younger and wasn’t wearing a helmet.

I’m still thinking about it.

I don’t know their circumstances, and I can’t say exactly how old the child was. But seeing someone that little on the back of a motorcycle without a helmet made my stomach drop.

I have nothing against motorcycles. I understand that people enjoy riding, and adults can make their own decisions about the risks they’re comfortable taking. What troubles me is that a young child can’t fully understand those risks. They’re trusting the adult in front of them to make those decisions for them.

That feels like a big responsibility.

And honestly, the part that scares me most is other drivers. You could be an experienced, careful rider and still encounter someone looking at their phone, pulling out without checking, or simply failing to notice you.

You can control how you drive. You can’t control everyone sharing the road.

I kept looking at that little passenger and thinking about how much trust children put in us. They don’t stop to evaluate every decision we make. They come along because we’re the grown-ups, and they believe we’ll keep them safe.

I’m not sharing this to identify or publicly shame anyone. I’m sharing it because it genuinely shook me, and I’m wondering whether other people feel the same way.

Is this something you see often? Would it have bothered you, too?

Because I drove away thinking one thing: that little head deserved a helmet.

Brand new? Start here! This class introduces you to American Mahjong. Take it as many times as you’d like—there’s no limit! Your first 101 class also includes one FREE Guided Play session to help you put what you’ve learned into practice.

💡 Guided Play | Build your confidence
Know the basics but still want some help? A teacher walks around to answer questions, help you think through your tiles, and coach you on strategy and defense. It’s a fun, supportive way to grow your skills!

💕 Open Play | Find your people
Join us on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays! Come on your own or with a friend and play with others who show up. No need to bring a full group—check the schedule for session times.

🥂 Reserve a Table | Bring your crew
Have your foursome ready? Reserve a table in two-hour increments during Parlor hours, subject to availability. Your reservation is for four people—you plus three friends!

🎉 Private Rentals | Make it a celebration
The whole Parlor can be rented for birthdays, bachelorette parties, private lessons, or a just-because gathering! Private rentals are subject to availability and existing bookings.
