Bold coral amaryllis steal the show, while burgundy calla lilies, playful pink blossoms, and unexpected pops of color join the party.

I love mixing flowers that you wouldn’t necessarily see together. Somehow, they end up getting along beautifully!

One of the things I love about allium is that it never has to play the same role twice.

Depending on what Mother Nature has in mind, I can find these wonderful purple globes from spring well into fall. And while the allium may be the star of the show, it’s the company I give it that changes the whole personality of an arrangement.

Here, I’ve paired it with ornamental kale, echinacea seed heads, and plenty of interesting greenery for something a little wild, architectural, and unexpected.

Same flower, completely different attitude. That’s what keeps this fun for me!

I had a little fun with autumn colors on this one.

This arrangement feels a bit like channeling Van Gogh’s sunflowers — bold, glowing, and full of life — but with an autumn twist. Golden yellows, rich oranges, berries, and beautiful foliage all working together with lots of texture and movement.

I always love when flowers feel expressive, almost like they’re telling their own story. This one has that kind of energy.

Fall gives me so much wonderful material to work with.

There’s something wonderful about working with flowers this time of year. The colors get richer, the textures become more interesting, and nature gives us so much to play with.

For this arrangement, I brought together golden sunflowers, vibrant orange marigolds, delicate grasses, berries, and seasonal foliage. I wanted it to feel loose and natural, with plenty of movement, as though everything had simply found its perfect place together.

I especially love the contrast between those bright, cheerful flowers and the darker, wispy grasses.

A little beauty for your feed today. This is on my work table, ready to be delivered.
I love creating arrangements that feel lush, and natural. This one is full of texture, movement, and that garden-style charm I never get tired of.

Flowers have a way of saying so much without being loud — they just do their thing and make everything better.

If this feels like your kind of arrangement, I’d love to make something for you.

Sometimes I start with the flowers. Other times, it’s a branch, a color, or something completely unexpected.

This time, the persimmons had my attention. Yes, those are real persimmons tucked in among the proteas, wild branches, and all that wonderful foliage.

I love mixing things that don’t necessarily belong in a traditional flower arrangement. A little wild, a little dramatic, and plenty of personality.

Who says fruit belongs only in a bowl?

A little wild, and definitely not shy!

I love flowers that have personality, and these golden pincushion proteas certainly have plenty of it. Add some bright green foliage, splashes of hot pink, and a few tall, dramatic stems reaching for the sky, and suddenly everyone wants to be the star of the show.

Somehow, they all get along beautifully.

I’ve never been much for flowers standing politely in a vase anyway. 🌿

Today’s arrangement comes with one of my favorite things in floral design: a list of ingredients that sounds more like a very strange lunch order than flowers.
Allium, rattlesnake calathea, protea and star of Bethlehem all made the cut here, along with pink anthurium and a few other beauties. The result is sculptural, playful, and just a little dramatic, which, honestly, is how I like flowers best.

Sometimes, even after all these years, this business can break your heart.

I’ve spent much of my life working with flowers. I love what I do, and I still get excited when I find beautiful, fresh materials and imagine what I can create with them.

This is an arrangement I recently designed. I chose the flowers for their freshness, quality, texture, and color. I thought the combination was spectacular.

But the person receiving it didn’t feel the same way.

And that’s something that can be difficult to accept when you do creative work for a living.

Flowers are personal. Color is personal. Beauty is personal. What takes my breath away might not speak to someone else at all.

I was reminded recently that sometimes, no matter how much care you’ve put into your work over the years, a relationship can feel like it’s only as good as your last arrangement.

That one hurt.

I’m not sharing this because I want sympathy. I’m sharing it because I think we sometimes forget that behind every small business is a real person, doing their best, taking chances, making mistakes, and occasionally getting their heart bruised along the way.

I won’t always get it right. But I can promise you that I’ll always care.

And tomorrow, I’ll be back doing what I love. Creating something beautiful with flowers.

Had so much fun creating this arrangement for Nathan & Co. to celebrate their new store opening.

I wanted it to feel bold, joyful, and full of personality — with rich burgundy tones, vibrant greens, and striking tropical blooms that make a real statement. Congratulations to Nathan & Co. on this exciting new chapter. Thank you for letting me be a small part of your opening celebration.

Wishing you so much success in your beautiful new space!
