From the client "We hired Illustrious flooring to seal and level our basement floor. Kyle did an amazing job! He is personable, friendly, and VERY knowledgeable. After leveling, our floor was so flat we didn’t add a single shim when installing cabinets. If you are looking for somebody to level or install flooring I highly recommend illustrious flooring!"
Below is a more thorough explanation of the project.
In all of years working with flooring, Illustrious Flooring, has never seen a flat concrete slab. They are generally wavy like an ocean and never ready to instantly receive floating floors. Our process began by removing any bond blockers such as sealants, drywall compound, paint, or anything else from the surface of the subfloor. Once we were done grinding and vacuuming the floor clean we were able to perform some basic moisture testing.
While the tests showed that an install could happen now and the moisture levels were fine, the couple opted for a product to mitigate any potential future issues. By applying the moisture mitigation product, any moisture release through the concrete slab is slowed to a rate that will not overwhelm the flooring and cause failure.
Once, the moisture mitigation was complete the primer for the self level was able to be put down. This gave the self level something to grip to and make a strong bond. From here we used a laser level to find the high spot in the basement and mark it as zero. Depth gauges were then cut to the proper heights in a 3'x3' grid to mark the low spots allowing us to know how deep to pour each area to achieve a level floor.
Once the self level was poured, it become walkable in about 4 hours. Dehumidifiers were run to help remove the extra moisture in the space and get it back to normal levels a little quicker. The floor was check for flatness and any areas that may have been out still were fixed using patch. The edges were knocked down where it tends to curl up, the foam used to create an expansion gap was removed, and floor is left ready to install on.
