I haven’t added any of these to my upcoming shop update but am wondering if I should…

Playing with plates

Last year a commission for a set of dining plates had me playing around with different designs. This is one design, a thin, flat as a pancake plate.

Getting the blues

Much of 2025 was spent extending my matte palette. The base glaze I formulated a while back works really well. While I am always looking to contrast or complement my clay bodies, I ended up getting lost in a rabbit warren looking for a tone that never quite hit the spot. It sent me on various deviations with some pleasing results. This is one, a duck egg blue that responds well to a slow cooling schedule allowing the iron in the glaze to produce some lovely pinky russet tones.

Settling down to a recent-ish purchase from the loveliest bookshop

These cups come in varying sizes as well as accompanying jugs in small and large. Glazed simply with a semi matte white interior, the exterior is a lovely warm sandstone toned stoneware with some grog that’s kept smooth at the rim. I have been making these on and off for many years and they are clearly a word of mouth item as orders are placed regularly without any promotion or marketing.

Plasticity.

Some clays are more plastic than others. When initially throwing these I would weigh out identical amounts of the stoneware as can be seen from these photos taken a while back, but the grey clay requires a few extra grams to achieve the same height.

Wheel thrown, gently textured coffee cups, available in two sizes espresso and latte/tea. Glazed on the inside in a variety of blues and greens. A selection of the espresso cups are available from Louisiana Butik.

It’s so rare that I remember or can be bothered to film, but as I wind down for the holidays and given that the algorithm likes these, I finally found time while preparing a last minute order.

Throwing with gloves is not aesthetically pleasing but the aesthetic gains for my hands and nails outweighs that significantly.
