A PLAYGROUND YOU CAN WEAR 🧶🌀

The Activity Sweater pattern is finally coming this Friday and this one has been almost three years in the making.

The original idea came from my love for vintage children’s clothing and activity boards , pieces made to be touched, explored and interacted with.

Over the past three years, I’ve made several samples, adding, removing and rethinking details until I finally arrived at the sweater I had imagined.

I didn’t just want to design a children’s sweater that looked playful. I wanted to build playfulness into the actual textile.

Every element has been thoughtfully considered around the way children naturally interact with the world through touch, movement, texture, curiosity and play.

Things to touch. Things to move.
Pockets to explore. Textures to feel.
Little unexpected details that invite curious hands.

It’s clothing, but it’s also something to interact with.

Something that encourages children to explore rather than asking them to sit still and simply look cute.

Some changed completely along the way.
And some are still just sitting here… waiting for their moment.

Can you tell which is which? ❤️

Earlier this year I took a little break from workshops, travelling and markets. I needed to ground myself a bit. To slow down, focus on my core and give the ideas some room to find me again.

Because THIS is the part of my job I love the most.

And I’ve realised that my favourite pieces almost always come from one very simple question:

“What would I like to wear?”

Not:

“Would this sell well?”
“Who would wear this?”
“Should I design something in this yarn because I need to sell more of it?”
“What is everyone knitting right now?”

Those thoughts are almost impossible to avoid when your creativity is also your livelihood. Somewhere along the way, you can accidentally start designing for the business instead of designing for yourself.

But when I manage to shut all of that noise out… that’s usually when the good stuff happens.

A pencil. A sketchbook. A slightly ridiculous idea.
And that feeling of I NEED TO SEE IF I CAN MAKE THIS.

Maybe that’s the funny thing about creativity.

The ideas that feel the most you are often the ones that end up speaking to other people too. ❤️

YES IM GUILTY OF EVERYTHING ON THIS LIST… and even though I only mention 10 things… there are more I could have come up with.

You don’t have to be a professional to be familiar with all those things mentioned.

But truly, isn’t it a knitter nightmare to be stuck somewhere and having to kill time and not having needles in your arms, enough projects to lean on and enough yarn?

🚨 THIS COULD CHANGE WHERE I CAN SHIP MY YARN 🚨

I’ve spent years building a tiny business that allows me to sell my yarn and patterns to knitters all over Europe.

And I want to be very clear: I support environmental legislation. I believe businesses should take responsibility for the packaging they put into the world. I’ve been sustainable from the start and will continue to do so.

But responsibility needs to be proportional.

A one-person business sending a few parcels into another European country should not need an administrative setup designed for companies distributing thousands or millions of products.

If complying with packaging legislation in every individual country costs more than the actual sales I make there, the solution for businesses like mine is painfully simple:

I stop shipping there.

And I don’t think that is the Europe we want.

We need one simple European system and rules that recognise the difference between a micro-business and a multinational company.

The European Commission is currently collecting feedback, so please make your voice heard.

Small businesses aren’t asking to avoid responsibility.
We’re asking for a system we can realistically survive. ❤️

I would also change “SIGN” to “LEAVE YOUR FEEDBACK” or “HAVE YOUR SAY” on the slides, because this is an EU feedback process rather than a petition. That makes the post harder for anyone to dismiss as misinformation.

6 REASONS WHY BLOCKING YOUR KNITS MATTERS 🫧🧶

Your knitting isn’t quite finished when you bind off…

01 : BLOCKING RELAXES THE FIBRES
and lets your stitches settle into place.

02 : IT EVENS OUT YOUR STITCHES
Small differences in tension become much less visible.

03 : IT LETS THE YARN BLOOM
Wool can soften, fluff up and completely transform after its first wash.

04 : IT BRINGS OUT THE TEXTURE
Cables become more defined, lace opens up and stitch patterns settle beautifully.

05 : IT HELPS WITH SHAPE + FIT
Blocking allows your garment to settle into its intended measurements and silhouette.

06 : IT IMPROVES THE DRAPE
The fabric relaxes and starts behaving like an actual garment rather than something fresh off the needles.

AND YES ; I WASH MY KNITS 🫧
I use my own WOOL SOAP when blocking to gently clean and care for the fibres. The soap contains linoleum and is made out of all natural ingredients. My favorite is Lavender or Rose fragrance ❣️

Then gently squeeze out the excess water, shape the garment and lay it flat to dry.

Blocking isn’t about fixing your knitting.
