Christmas Lantern with Mary McIntosh

I always like to do a Christmas themed workshop near to Christmas and have a keepsake item that I can bring out each year.

We are fortunate this year to have Mary McIntosh teaching her Christmas Lantern and having made a similar one earlier this year, I know how much fun I had making it.

In Mary’s words:- Create a delicate filigree style lantern to be displayed around a glass vase and with a battery candle or fairy lights inside. Choice of designs and colourways. Option on straight stitching or free motion stitching.

Using Lutradur spunbond fabric we will stitch then colour with transfer dyes and add foiling before burning and soldering. This technique may not be suitable for those with breathing problems.

There will be a charge of £6.00 to cover materials payable to Mary on the day. The glass vase 20cm x 10cm is available from Hobbycraft for £7 or Mary can supply at cost if ordered in advance.

Other design options are Snowflakes or Stars.

The best thing to do today in this awful weather was Sew! And I had a lovely day teaching. Diagonal striped pouches and a Scrappy Pouch. Great work ladies. They are all fabulous.

I had a mini sewing break and made something for me for a change. I used some illustrated squares and framed them using Stonehenge from Northcott Fabrics. Thrilled with my new lap quilt top.

Just arrived - these gorgeous Japanese fabrics. The Navy print are Cotton Poplin and the Double Sided Prints are Cotton Printed Shantung. They feel lovely too.

Zipped Pouch with Tina Finbow

With Christmas coming around so fast, I was thinking about what makes a great Christmas Gift and I have found in previous years that the Zipped Pouch is not only a great gift, but you can also put a gift inside it too.

With that in mind – this workshop is an opportunity to come along and make a Zipped Pouch – you will have a choice of what to make – a pouch made with mini charms, or one using up Jelly Roll strips placed diagonally or even one using a whole piece of fabric that can be quilted up. You will learn all about how to make the Zipped Pouch. You can even buy one of our Kits to make.

Not suitable for an Absolute Beginner.
