There’s been plenty of DK yarn in use at Knit and Natter this week, with members working on baby blankets, socks, and a few smaller accessories alongside their usual projects.

DK remains one of the most popular weights for group projects because it’s practical, versatile, and available in such a wide range of colours and fibres. It works well for everything from everyday knitting to gifts and larger crochet projects.

One table can easily have several different DK yarns being used at once, all for completely different projects. It’s always interesting seeing how people combine colours, adapt patterns, and share ideas as they work.

There’s usually plenty of pattern discussion going on too, especially when someone is trying a new technique, adjusting sizing, or choosing yarn substitutions for a project.

Fancy joining in with our cosy knit and Natter session, they run every Wednesday from 10am - 12pm, no booking necessary.

WYS ColourLab DK comes in a wide range of shades that coordinate beautifully, which makes it a very useful yarn when you’re planning projects with colour changes.

Whether you’re working stripes into a garment, choosing contrast colours for crochet, or putting together a blanket with several shades, the ColourLab palette makes it much easier to build combinations that work well together.

The range includes soft neutrals, brighter tones, and deeper shades, so there’s plenty of flexibility depending on the look you want to create. Seeing the colours together in person also helps when you’re comparing tones or deciding how colours will sit next to each other once worked up.

It’s one of those yarns that often gives people ideas for projects simply by standing in front of the display and looking through the colours.

Cygnet Deluxe DK, Stylecraft Special DK, and Hayfield Bonus DK are three of the most versatile yarns in the shop, and they’re favourites for a reason.

They’re reliable, practical DK weights that work well for all sorts of projects, from garments and shawls to blankets, children’s clothes, accessories, and everyday crochet.

Each one has its own strengths too. Some customers choose based on colour range, others on softness, price point, or how the yarn behaves once worked up. Having all three in stock makes it easier to compare and find the right fit for the project you have in mind.

If you’re planning a new make and not quite sure which DK to choose, these are always a good place to start.

After a bit of moving shelves, shifting yarn, and reorganising the shop, all of our DK yarns are now together in one place.

The new DK wall brings together colour, texture, fibre blends, and brands side by side, making it much easier to compare options and plan projects. Whether you’re choosing for garments, blankets, accessories, or everyday knitting and crochet, having everything together opens up plenty of possibilities.

Some customers already know exactly what they’re looking for. Others prefer to browse first and see what catches their eye. The new layout works well for both.

There’s space to take your time, hold colours together, browse patterns, and properly look through the range without hopping between shelves.

It’s made choosing yarn for projects much easier, especially when you want to compare shades, textures, or different fibres all at once.

When you’re planning a project for babies or young children, it helps to have a yarn you can rely on.

Sirdar Snuggly DK has been a dependable choice for years. It’s soft to work with, practical for everyday garments, and easy to care for once the project is finished.

It works beautifully for cardigans, blankets, and small sets that will be worn and washed often.

A dependable choice when you’re planning everyday makes.
