BTS from my camera rollšThe making & the thought behind it our new Bouquet Bags.
I had the idea for expanding the slow living collection of Makes Scents for the summer months and wanted to go back to wear it all started, with flowers. So I created totes for carrying bunches of flowers with ease.
Butā¦.I havenāt forgotten about candles even for summer and email subscribers will know thereās a new summer scent on its way. Back to bags, I picked natural canvas and beautiful printer fabric, pastel trimmings and cotton webbing from and the owner was so helpful and supportive, before Iād even got a sewing machine or worked out if this was possible. I have sewed before at university for a costume design module but only managing the basics, so I relearnt. Needles broke multiple times. And I canāt stop calling herringbone tape, which is the softest material used for the ties, Hemingway tape.
I wanted to create something that was comfortable go carry, thatās made sustainably and that feels luxurious and fun. I thought about colourways and fell in love with the William Morris style print of the Romantic Bouquet Bag design, any other bags Iād seen were very plain. Iāll still be adding seeds into orders and if they get picked up by local or local stockists the tags on the bags will be made with plant paper.
I carefully thought about the label placement too, itās at the back so that when you carry your bag itās not hidden by your arm. The finishing touch was adding aglets to complete the ties to prevent fraying and make them as durable as possible. I made the first, then developed the design to lengthen the straps to create more room for larger bunches and posies. Now we have two designs, ready for pre-order tomorrow.
Theyāll all be made to order which may not be the quickest way, or the cheapest, but I think itās a sustainable way. I hope you love the Classic and the Romantic Bouquet Bags as much as me ššø
