Very different today on the Isle of Lewis! We drove to Mealasta at the end of the road on the west side of the island to watch the stormy sea. Incredibly wild and windy, we could barely stand up out of the car and the waves were huge - so much bigger than they look in this video! At one point along the road the sea was blowing right up the cliff and over the road so the car got a rather salty rinse. An early start tomorrow to get the ferry back to Ullapool (assuming the weather calms down overnight as forecast) then the long drive back to Derbyshire. As always I’ll be sad to leave my friend and this beautiful place ❤️

Very small dog on a very big beach.
Currently visiting my friend in the Outer Hebrides and today we visited the gorgeous Seilebost beach on the Isle of Harris. Had it all to ourselves, just us and our dogs. Heaven ❤️

This lovely compact oak arts and crafts style wall cabinet sold before I got around to posting it on here, but it’s too cute not to share! It has green bullseye glass panels in each corner and nicely shaped sides, along with a little shelf/niche above the cupboard. Very nice little piece of furniture ❤️

I love this bowl! Lovely large Japanese Imari bowl with scalloped rim. The inside is beautiful but I think I like the outside even better… It’s a great size and would be a great fruit bowl, if you could bear to hide the decoration behind fruit!

We’ve had some lovely antique pine chests of drawers in stock over the last few months. This is the newest addition and it’s an absolute beauty! Original glass k***s, a nice chamfer detail to the front corners and panelled sides. And it arrived just in time as the one remaining pine chest sold this morning, and I don’t like to be without one - they’re such nice pieces of furniture and are popular for very good reason.

I love a pie (my local pub does the best chicken ham and leek pie ever!) and it’s hard to think how the humble pie could be improved upon, but having a little elephant truck sticking up out of it would surely help 😊

This vintage Nutbrown pie funnel dates from c1930 - 1950 and would make a lovely little kitchen ornament if you couldn’t bear to put him in a pie!

What do you think? Had this a while and can’t make my mind up! It’s already drilled for a cable so will be easy enough to do, but it’s a very nice thing as it is, absolutely gorgeous verdigris patina. Might make more of a statement as a lamp though 🤷‍♀️

I find strip maps absolutely fascinating- this one has just sold so thought I’d do a little video about it before I pack it up and wave goodbye (excuse the very bad filming - not my strong point!)

I remember as a child watching my dad plan out routes he had to take for work. He’d sit there with an A to Z and write out a list of turnings to make then tape it to his dashboard. I think I had a few years of doing the same thing when I first started having to drive places for work (showing my age there). I guess these maps are the 17th century equivalent - much easier to have a simple route to follow than having to stop and consult a map all the time. They’re so beautifully drawn as well. There are a lot of familiar places to me in this one as it travels through Derbyshire, though I do especially like the bit where the only landmark is ‘a rock’.

Hopefully this one will be enjoyed by its new owner.

Here’s a little video of my latest project - a vintage oval side table with a lovely curvy shape, with lots of curves in the design. Painted using with a subtle crackle finish and finished with white wax for a soft lived in look.
I’ve been having trouble getting the colours to show accurately in photos but this video is a fairly good representation I think.
Had a lot of fun designing and painting this 😊

I was talking to a customer the other day and she said something along the lines of ‘it must be really difficult parting with things’, and that got me thinking about all the things I wish I’d kept, or probably would have kept if I didn’t have a mortgage to pay, a w**e habit to fund etc. There are lots of pieces I fall in love with, but I try not to get attached to them (even if a few do accidentally find their way home with me, even if only temporarily). I’ve put together a collection of the ones I probably would have kept if space and finances allowed.
Art is the hardest thing to resist for me - the theatre posters and the woodblock print are probably the things I regret selling the most as I could have made space for them at home, but decided to be strict with myself, and I do regret it a bit. But, there’s always something new to fall in love with, so maybe next time that something comes along I will give in and keep it for myself.
