A few days ago, I went to Sidmouth, Jacob’s Ladder, one of my favourite places for swimming.

It was almost completely silent. No one else on the beach, in need of a quiet day.

When I arrived, I found the sea wrapped in mist, barely there, the horizon lost somewhere in the grey.
But slowly, almost imperceptibly, the mist began to lift.
Hour by hour, the light changed. The blue appeared, the sky opened, and the sea came back into view — brighter, clearer, more beautiful for having been hidden.

I stayed for hours, watching the day unfold in its own quiet way.
And all the while, I knew that summer was gently drawing to a close: the long days, the freedom of being by the sea, and, with it, the end of swimming for another year.

Leaving a mark. 🫆

There’s something very special to me about making pottery by hand. It’s the little imperfections, the small details, and the marks that make each piece feel truly its own.

My WHITE IMPATIENCE range is inspired by the coast and the simplicity of farmhouse pottery — rustic, earthy pieces with a gentle seaside feel.

And at the centre of every piece, I leave a blue fingerprint.🫆
It’s my personal mark, pressed onto the clay by hand before each piece is glazed and fired.

At 1250°C, that little mark transforms into an intense cobalt blue — a tiny flash of colour that becomes the signature of the collection.

A little mark from my hands to yours. 💙

Sometimes a busy morning in the pottery calls for a little escape.

A thirty-minute walk, and suddenly I’m greeted by this beautiful still life — a glorious tumble of sunflowers in front of that picturesque blue counter🌻💙 A colourful welcome at one of my my favourite restaurants: The Lost Kitchen The Lost Kitchen — always a little holiday in the middle of an ordinary working day. To have a wood-fired Margherita, one of my favourites is just heavenly 😋

After glazing and decorating this one-of-a-kind vessel, as shown in my previous posts, it was fired in my electric kiln.

You never quite know what you’ll get until the kiln is opened — the colours, the surface, the little surprises. And that’s exactly what I love about this process. I do my best, but there is always a little unpredictability, a surprise waiting when I open the kiln.

I’m really happy with how this one turned out. There’s something very satisfying about holding the finished piece and remembering all the stages it went through to get here.

I still can’t quite believe I’m typing this, but here goes: my pottery and I were on the BBC! 😍 Escape to the Country came to my studio a few weeks back, filming a segment on Devon, and a couple looking to move here—Neil and Lisa— spent a morning with me, throwing on the wheel between questions about the area’s creative scene.

Some of my pots had a brief moment on the Pottery Throw Down a couple of years ago, but this is the first time I’ve actually been in front of a camera myself.

It’s a strange thing, having a camera in the room for something that’s usually just me and the clay. But it was a good reminder of why I set up here in the first place: Tiverton, tucked into this beautiful corner of Devon, with a genuinely artistic streak that people don’t always expect to find here. The same crew also spent time with rockcitytiverton, , Liznojan books and some of the folk at Tiverton pannier market , and it’s good company to be featured alongside! They’re all the kind of places that make this town worth staying curious about, whatever corner of it you’re in.

The episode’s out now if you’d like to watch it: S27 E20 (The bit about Tiverton starts at minute 14.25.)

And if it’s put you in mind of pottery, my full collections are all on my website. Have a browse. Everything’s still made here in Devon, one pot at a time. 🍯

Following on from my last post, where I shared the glazing of this large, one-of-a-kind black clay vessel, the next stage of its transformation begins.

With brush and wet sponge, I gently work back into the glazed surface, partially removing the clay to reveal an increasingly organic landscape of marks, textures and subtle variations.

At this stage, the process becomes a conversation between intention and chance. Each movement of the brush and sponge leaves its own trace, slowly building the surface and giving the vessel its individual character.

Step by step, the personality of the piece begins to emerge.

More to come as the vessel continues its journey.
