October on Poros is a little bit of sunshine, a little bit of rain, and a whole lot of island charm.One minute you’re reaching for your umbrella, the next you’re wondering if it’s warm enough for a swim (and honestly, it probably is!). It’s the month for slow walks, little shops, hiking trails, salty hair, a good book, and one more coffee by the sea. The island gets a little quieter, the locals slip into their winter rhythm, and a few curious visitors still wander around, soaking it all in. No summer crowds, no rush, just Poros being Poros. And really, what’s not to love about that?

The Greeks have a beautiful word: νοσταλγία. More than nostalgia, it means “the ache to return home.” Some places give you that feeling instantly… the feeling of stepping into another time, where life moves slower and simple moments become unforgettable memories.

Fotini Taverna is one of those places. Located on the mainland opposite Poros, overlooking Aliki Beach, this little taverna feels untouched by time.

Foteini’s mother was the heart and soul of this special place for many years, famous for her homemade keftedakia and authentic Greek cooking. Today, Foteini continues her mother’s beautiful tradition, keeping those flavours, recipes, and warmth alive.

With only the sound of the sea and nature around you, it’s the perfect spot for a quiet, authentic Greek lunch. We arrived by boat from Poros, which made discovering this hidden gem even more magical.

Personally, I love Hydra and its unique charm … the car-free streets, historic mansions, donkeys, and artistic heritage make it a truly magical island. While the article suggests that Hydra’s popularity has made it busier and more expensive, I still believe it remains one of Greece’s most beautiful destinations.

That said, I understand why the writer and friends fell in love with Poros. Its quiet beauty, welcoming atmosphere, and authentic island feeling are exactly why we love living on Poros.

May 1st in Greece🌷, known as Πρωτομαγιά, blends history and tradition. It began as a day honoring workers’ struggles, but is also celebrated as the arrival of spring, with flowers, nature walks, and handmade wreaths. 🌸🌼

Greek island living begins from within…. starting at home. Our guest room may be small, but it’s full of charm. Thoughtful details like a vintage suitcase, a hint of color in a painting, a wooden chair, and a small vanity…create a space that feels both cozy and inviting. Warm wood accents complement the white walls and floors, while light curtains allow the sunlight to gently fill the room. It blends seamlessly with the rest of our home, a quiet reminder that in Mediterranean living, it’s the smallest details that bring warmth and character to a space.
