"Unreal Canterbury" is currently on at The Eastside Gallery

This exhibition brings together 11 artists whose works tilt the familiar, unsettle the expected, and reimagine the region.

Across painting, sculpture, photography, moving image, textile and monoprints, the exhibition invites viewers to consider not only what this place is, but what it has been, what it might become, and the versions of it we carry within us.

Floor talks with the Curator will take place every Saturday at 11am.

We have a new "batch" of Gift Voucher Wallets for you to choose from when you purchase a gift voucher from us!

The Akoroa Lighthouse design is by local watercolourist, Susie Millichamp.

Susie has been painting New Zealand landscapes for over three decades, and is especially fond of the mountains and views across the plains from her home in Mid-Canterbury.

Her style is Impressionistic Realism, and she is known for her love of colour.

Susie works with Winsor & Newton Professional watercolours, along with select colours from the Daniel Smith watercolour range.

She enjoys painting En Plein Air and exhibits throughout the South Island.
She has travelled to Italy and France to attend workshops in Europe, and is well recognized for her beautiful landscapes.

Surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the Southern Alps, this intimate three-night retreat offers a rare opportunity to slow down, reconnect creatively, and immerse yourself in this inspiring and memorable setting.

Suitable for both beginners and experienced artists.

Julie teaches in a warm, supportive, and encouraging way, with a strong focus on seeing colour, simplifying shape, understanding light, and developing your own personal response to the landscape.
Alongside pastel techniques, there will also be discussion around composition, mark-making, colour harmony and creative process.

This is a fully hosted, all-inclusive retreat designed to nourish creativity and provide genuine connection, comfort, and inspiration.
