A special piece completed by Tā Moko artist Madia, bringing together her client's Ngāi Tahu and Ngāti Kahungunu whakapapa for his very first moko and tattoo.

His Ngāi Tahu connections takes him to Koukourarata Marae, Koukourarata Awa and Te Pohue Mauka, while his Ngāti Kahungunu whakapapa connects him to Houngarea Marae, Kahuranaki Maunga and Ngaruroro Awa. Both sides share Takitimu Waka.

The green represents his Ngāi Tahu heritage, while the blue represents Ngāti Kahungunu. Two colours intertwined to honour both sides of his whakapapa in one meaningful piece.

A beautiful way to carry his identity, whakapapa and connections with him.

A beautiful thigh Tā Moko piece by Tāmoko artist Madia, telling a personal story of whakapapa, whānau and culture. 🖤

With connections to Maniapoto iwi, Tainui waka and Ngāti Hari hapū, this piece carries the representation of 17 special people, each woven into the design.

A native Samoan hibiscus was also incorporated to honour her stepfather, bringing another meaningful part of her journey and cultural connections into the piece.

A story of identity, the people who shape her and the connections she carries through life.
