Meet Stephanie Lawshe and her beautiful pottery tomorrow at the Pottery Throwdonw!
"Art has always been a part of who I am. After more than twenty years of exploring different creative mediums, I discovered pottery about four years ago and instantly fell in love with the process. There’s something grounding and peaceful about working with clay and letting each piece take on its own character. Much of my inspiration comes from nature, its textures, colors, and imperfect beauty. I enjoy creating pottery that feels unique, a little whimsical, and full of personality."

See Trista Chapman this Saturday at the Pottery Throwdown!
"My 4,000-square-foot studio gives me the space and tools to create freely. I currently work with low-fire earthenware and a wide range of underglazes, using the potter’s wheel along with some mold work—press molding, casting, and assembling parts with playful feet, k***s, and handles. My process has grown more layered, combining sgraffito and painting to create whimsical yet functional pieces.

My colorful surfaces reveal hidden patterns and symbols once used by drifters and hobos during the Great Depression—visual messages of connection that I now expand with global symbols. Through form and color, I aim to bring a sense of lightheartedness and joy—art that simply makes people smile."

Tori Powers is a ceramic artist based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Drawn to clay since high school, she returned to pottery in 2022 and now creates a mix of functional and sculptural pieces—from vessels and bowls to lamps. Her work features minimalist carvings and textured patterns that highlight the clay’s natural beauty, often enhanced by the unpredictable effects of Raku firing. With a background in mathematics, Tori balances symmetry and spontaneity in her designs, crafting pieces that offer comfort, grounding, and a sense of quiet joy.

Christianne Arnold grew up around the world but considers Falmouth, MA, on Cape Cod her true hometown. It was there that her love of pottery first took root under the guidance of Sarah Caruso and Seth Rainville. She later continued her studies in Fredericksburg, VA, learning from Neil Reed and Kevin Rodrigue, where she continues to pursue the ever-elusive “ultimate” form.

Working in both porcelain and stoneware, Christianne is recognized for her graceful vases and her refined command of glazes, which highlight the balance and elegance in her work.

Tiffany Yates
I am a maker, ceramist, and illustrator working in both digital and traditional media. My practice is rooted in curiosity about the “other”—anatomy, biology, and the visual puns that emerge when science and storytelling intersect. As an artist and teacher at Libertytown Arts Workshop in Fredericksburg, VA, I create work in Studio 23 that draws inspiration from medical and biological sciences as well as the narratives we build around them.

I am especially drawn to subjects that feel strange, overlooked, or misunderstood. Through humor and a sense of wonder, I explore the forms and patterns found in natural science, inviting viewers to see the beauty, oddity, and humanity within them.

Sperlazza Pottery offers handmade, functional pieces designed to brighten your home, kitchen, and everyday life. Each piece is carefully crafted by hand, then layered with colorful slips and glazes. Using a unique process, I screen print patterns onto newsprint, build up layers of vibrant color, and transfer the image onto the clay in a monoprint style.

I’m inspired by the joy of bold patterns and lively color, bringing a fresh energy to traditional, functional pottery. Every piece is made to be used, loved, and enjoyed again and again in daily life.

Maral Noori
As a potter, I'm drawn to the tactile nature of clay and the joy and calm it brings me. My work combines intricate carvings with a palette of soothing glaze colors, from soft blues and pinks to rich blacks and whites. Each piece is designed to bring a touch of handmade beauty and charm to everyday life, whether it's a travel mug that brightens your commute or a salt cellar that adds a pinch of love to your cooking. Through my pottery, I hope to share the positivity and mindfulness that this craft has brought to my life, and inspire others to find beauty in the everyday.
