🎃 Before the Pumpkin Carving

Before glowing pumpkins became a familiar sight on autumn porches, people carved turnips and other root vegetables into lanterns.

The tradition has roots in Ireland and parts of Britain. When it traveled across the Atlantic, pumpkins were plentiful, larger, and much easier to carve—and a beloved autumn tradition took on a new form.

Different harvest. Same flickering tradition. 🕯️🍂

The first hint of autumn is simmering on the stove. 🍎🌿

Apple for abundance, nourishment, gratitude, and new beginnings.
Rosemary for protection, remembrance, clarity, and positive energy.
Cinnamon for warmth, prosperity, success, and blessings.

Together, they create more than a beautiful seasonal scent—they carry an intention for a warm, peaceful, abundant home.

My home is a place of warmth, abundance, and peace. I am grateful for all that I have, and I welcome all that is yet to come. 🤎

Before candle molds, there were hands, wicks, warm wax, and patience. 🕯️🌿

Candles were dipped layer by layer, rolled from sheets of beeswax, or shaped by hand. No two were exactly alike—each one carrying the marks of the person who made it.

Those old methods still inspire the candles I create today at The Hearth & Provision.

Different tools. Different times. The same intention—light. 🤎

Before the Electric Iron | When Ironing Took Strength

Before an iron plugged into the wall, ironing day required heat, strength, and patience.

Heavy flat irons—often called sad irons—were heated on wood or coal stoves. Households might keep several heating at once, swapping them as each cooled. Later box irons could hold hot coals or heated inserts to keep the heat going longer.

And there was no temperature dial. Too cool and the wrinkles stayed. Too hot and you could scorch the fabric. 🤎

Something that takes us minutes today was once a carefully managed household chore.

Different tools. Different times. The same care for home. 🌿🐝

A simmer pot for abundance, warmth, protection, and gratitude. 🌿🤎

💜 Fig — abundance, prosperity & nourishment
🤎 Cinnamon — warmth, protection & positive energy
🌿 Bay — protection, peace & new beginnings

Add everything to water and allow it to simmer gently, adding more water as needed. Let the warmth and fragrance slowly fill your home.

I welcome abundance with gratitude. I protect the peace within my home and make room for what nourishes me.
