Connecticut’s mattress recycling program had its biggest year yet, with MRC’s Bye Bye Mattress program collecting a record 219,675 mattresses and foundations in the fiscal year ending June 30.

Retailers helped drive that growth, with collections up nearly 30% from the previous year.

Created by ISPA, MRC now operates industry-led recycling programs in Connecticut, California, Oregon and Rhode Island.

ISPA created the Mattress Recycling Council to give the industry a seat at the table on recycling. Seeing that work move forward in California makes us proud. Congratulations, MRC!

We are pleased to share that, after a thorough review process that included several revisions and opportunities for public input, CalRecycle formally approved MRC’s amended program plan on October 8, 2026.

This approval marks an important milestone for California's mattress recycling program and reflects the continued collaboration with manufacturers, state and local agencies, retailers and other stakeholders. The approved plan provides a roadmap to enhance statewide mattress collection and recycling while supporting MRC’s commitment to environmental stewardship, consumer convenience, and regulatory compliance.
