We’re hiring a Junior Interior Designer at IJD!

We are looking for someone who really loves the technical side of design. Someone who is strong with drawings, pays attention to the details, and finds a lot of satisfaction in getting things organized and just right.

If your idea of a good day includes dialing in a floor plan, labeling drawings properly, and making sure every detail is thought through you might be our person.

You’ll work alongside our team supporting projects from concept through installation, helping bring thoughtful, story-driven homes to life.

This role is ideal for someone with 1–3 years of experience who is creative, curious, and eager to grow inside a collaborative studio.

If that sounds like you, send your resume and portfolio to
[email protected]

And if someone comes to mind, feel free to share this with them.

Just back from Vegas Market and still sitting with this one.

I had the honor of being part of a panel about marketing and how to find your voice without selling your soul. It turned into a much more personal conversation than I expected.

For a long time, fear ran the show for me. Real fear. Phobia-level fear. You couldn’t get me on an airplane. So I became a flight attendant and faced it head-on for 20 years.

When I started my design business, I hadn’t graduated college. I second-guessed myself. I didn’t always think I belonged in the room. And suddenly I was being asked to put myself out there and market myself in a way I never had before.

What changed everything was deciding to stop showing up as who I thought I should be and start showing up as who I actually am. Clear values. CEO mindset. No pretending.

That’s how I market. That’s how I lead. And at the end of the day, I can sleep because it’s honest.

Every season of growth in my life has lived on the other side of fear. I asked myself the same question I did years ago when flying terrified me. What’s the worst that can happen? The stories fear tells us rarely come true.

Grateful to for the invitation and for moderating such a meaningful conversation.
Thank you to , , and for hosting.
And grateful to share the stage with and of and Rona Graf of

We’re hiring!!!!

We’re looking for a Studio Manager / Client Concierge- someone who loves creating order behind the scenes, cares deeply about people, and finds real satisfaction in making things run smoothly. If you’re the kind of person who notices details, thinks in workflows, and values thoughtful follow-through, this role might feel like home.

Designers lead the design. You’ll own the process that supports it, keeping projects organized, communication clear, and clients feeling genuinely cared for. We’re a process-driven studio, so comfort working in systems like Asana is essential.

This is a full-time, local, hybrid role based in Glenview, IL. If this sounds like you (or someone you know), we’d love to hear from you.

2025 gave me more clarity than I expected.

There was growth, yes but more than that, there was direction. The vision sharpened. The work felt steadier. Systems, structure, and the right people came into place in ways that changed how the business operates day to day.

There was also so much good woven throughout the year. Meaningful conversations through podcasts and two docuseries. Incredible clients who trusted the process. Friends, new and old, who showed up with encouragement and steadiness. And family who continues to be my constant, grounding force.

Looking back, even the moments that slowed things down were doing important work. They created space to see more clearly and build more intentionally.

I’m closing out the year deeply grateful and heading into 2026 focused on fortifying what’s been built, with clarity, confidence, and a lot of heart.

Before the plans and presentations, it always starts with us- the team around the table.

This is the crew that brings IJD to life day after day, the ones sketching ideas on napkins, debating tile samples over too much caffeine, and laughing through the chaos that comes with building homes people actually want to live in.

We’re a small team with a lot of passion, even bigger heart, and a shared belief that good design begins with listening to the story that matters most.. yours.

Here’s the team behind the work you see, the homes you love, and the stories we get to help write.

You can have the best drawings in the world, but nothing replaces standing on site with your GC and electrician. Electrical walkthroughs are where we talk, adjust, laugh a little, and dial in the details before the drywall closes us in. Big thanks to for always being a steady partner on projects like this. Teamwork makes the Dream work!

Interior design is at its best when the home starts telling the family’s story before anyone even speaks. In this new build, that story showed up early and often in the form of Chester. He was there through every walkthrough, every site visit, every muddy-boot construction milestone. Always waiting. Always watching. Always greeting me like I was part of the family.

So when it came time to place this artwork that meant so much to our client, this wall made the decision for us. The horse piece carries the same presence and quiet strength Chester brought to the project from day one. Two of the things my clients love most, meeting right here in the hallway.

The result is simple but meaningful. A home that reflects their life, their style, and the loyal friend who never missed a step of the process.

Sometimes you have to walk into rooms where you’re not sure you belong, because that’s where you end up growing.

There is so much to say about my experience at the and there’s no way I can express it all in one post,
but here are my thoughts looking back now that I’ve had time to process…

When I heard the Contractor Coalition Summit was coming to Chicago, I had this thought that maybe I should go.

Obviously not because I’m a contractor, but because I work alongside them every day.

And if I want to be a better partner, I need to understand their world, their pain points, their pressures, and the weight they carry running their businesses.

Still, I hesitated.
Would I even belong there?

About a week before the summit, I reached out to Brad Leavitt from
to ask if it was a bad idea.

I didn’t want to walk in and have everyone thinking “Why is she here?”

He said, “Absolutely come, you’ll get so much out of it.”

So I went. Nervous, but expectant. And from the moment I arrived, every single person was kind, welcoming, and generous with what they knew.

We toured job sites, learned from some of the brightest minds in the business, and had conversations that reminded me no matter what we all share the same goal: integrity in our work and care for our clients.

It was humbling and energizing all at once.

The biggest thing I walked away with?
We’re not that different.

Designers, builders, architects, trades,
we all want to do good work and take care of our people.

Thank you

for the insight, honesty, and wisdom you poured into everyone there.
You each inspired me in your own way.

And to anyone reading this who’s sitting on an opportunity that feels intimidating, go anyway.
You might just find your people there.

The last chapter.

Two homes, two families, and so many moments that reminded me why I do what I do.

From the first sketches to the final install, this series has always been about more than design ..it’s been about trust, intention, and creating homes that hold real life.

In this episode, we walk through both projects and talk about the “why” behind it all. The details that make a house feel personal, the small choices that tell a bigger story.

Every family we work with brings their own heartbeat to a project. That’s what Design with Heart has always meant to me, it’s not about making it perfect, it’s about making it theirs.

Thank you for being part of this.
